Location: Christchurch Hospital, University Hospitals Dorset NHS Foundation Trust
Pay Rate: £20 - £24 per hour
Pay Mechanism: Direct Engagement
Contract Duration: 28/04/2025 - 17/07/2025

Job Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Band 6 Occupational Therapist to join our dynamic team at University Hospitals Dorset. In this role, you will be responsible for providing high-quality occupational therapy services to patients across a variety of wards, including medical, surgical, and rehabilitation settings. You will assess, plan, and deliver interventions aimed at enabling patients to regain independence, improve their functional abilities, and enhance their quality of life.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct comprehensive assessments of patients' physical, mental, and cognitive health to develop personalised treatment plans.

  • Provide interventions to support patients in their rehabilitation, focusing on improving daily living skills, mobility, and self-care.

  • Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team, including doctors, nurses, and other therapists, to ensure integrated patient care.

  • Provide education and advice to patients and their families, helping them understand the role of occupational therapy in recovery.

  • Supervise and mentor junior staff and occupational therapy students, providing guidance and support.

  • Ensure timely documentation of assessments, progress notes, and discharge plans.

  • Participate in service improvement initiatives and contribute to the development of occupational therapy services within the trust.

  • Be flexible to provide input across various clinical areas as required, including acute, rehabilitation, and community settings.

Key Requirements
  • Degree or diploma in Occupational Therapy.

  • HCPC registration.

  • Proven experience as a Band 5 Occupational Therapist in a general healthcare setting.

  • Strong clinical skills in assessing and treating a range of conditions, including musculoskeletal, neurological, and general medical conditions.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships with patients, families, and colleagues.

  • Ability to work autonomously and manage a varied caseload.

  • Evidence of ongoing professional development (CPD).

  • Experience in supervising junior staff and students.

  • A flexible and patient-centred approach to care.
