Bid writer (part-time)

The role

Cluttons Oxford operates in the Energy and Utilities sector, specialising in the design and delivery of complex civil construction projects for major infrastructure developments. We are looking for a talented Bid Writer to join our team on a part-time basis, producing high-quality proposals that win strategic contracts and framework opportunities within this technical and highly competitive market. Your contributions will lead to direct impact on financial performance and project success.

The Bid Writer will be responsible for researching, writing, and coordinating compelling bid submissions for the design of civil construction works in the Energy and Utilities sector. You will work closely with engineering, design, and project management teams to gather technical content, interpret client requirements, and produce persuasive and compliant responses that showcase our expertise and capabilities.

This role will be 3 days a week and we are very flexible on days/hours and could be over 5 shorter working days.

Responsibilities

• Review tender documents, drawings, and technical specifications to extract key requirements.
• Write clear, concise, and compelling responses that address evaluation criteria and highlight technical strengths.
• Collaborate with civil, structural, and design engineers to gather detailed project input.
• Ensure all bid submissions are compliant, well-structured, and delivered on time.
• Maintain a library of technical content, case studies, and supporting project documentation.
• Track bid progress, manage submission timelines, and monitor success rates.
• Continuously improve bid processes and identify ways to increase win probability.

Essential

• Proven experience as a Bid Writer, Proposal Writer, or similar role within construction, engineering, or infrastructure.
• Exceptional written English with the ability to translate technical detail into persuasive content.
• Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Attention to detail, with accuracy in grammar, formatting, and compliance.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Desirable

• Knowledge of the Energy & Utilities sector, particularly in civil construction design projects.
• Familiarity with public sector and regulated industry procurement processes.
• Experience working with multidisciplinary engineering teams.
• Understanding of CDM (Construction Design and Management) Regulations and their application in design projects.
