Hours : Approx 2-3 days a month

Location: Dunstable, Bedfordshire

Salary: VOLUNTARY (expenses paid)

This fantastic charity is seeking an outstanding leader to become our next Chair of Trustees. This is a pivotal voluntary role for someone passionate about disability rights, social justice, and inclusive communities.

About the Role

As Chair, you will provide strategic leadership to the Board of Trustees, ensuring strong governance and effective oversight of our charity. You will support and hold our CEO to account, act as an ambassador for the charity and help strengthen our profile with stakeholders, partners, and the wider community.

This role offers the opportunity to shape the future direction of the charity and make a tangible impact on the lives of disabled people and their families.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the Board in delivering effective governance, strategy and risk management.

• Chair trustee meetings with fairness, inclusivity, and clarity.

• Ensure the Board has the right skills, diversity and information to govern well.

• Provide guidance, support and constructive challenge to the CEO.

• Represent the charity externally, championing disability rights and inclusion.

What We’re Looking For

Essential:

• A genuine commitment to disability rights and social justice.

• Proven governance or board-level leadership experience.

• Strong understanding of trustees’ legal responsibilities.

Excellent strategic thinking, integrity, and collaborative leadership.

• Ability to work in a constructive partnership with the CEO.

Desirable:

• Experience chairing a board or committee.

• Familiarity with charity finance, HR or commissioning.

• Lived or professional experience of disability or health conditions.

Time Commitment

Approximately 2–3 days per month, including:

• Six board meetings annually plus subcommittees.

• Monthly 1:1 with the CEO.

• Occasional representation at external meetings/events.

This is a voluntary role with reasonable expenses reimbursed. The appointment is made annually at the AGM, with an expectation to serve for three years.
