Job Description - Charity Trustee / Independent Non-Executive Director
McBride Sport has been retained by a forward-thinking Somerset-based sports charity to find two new Trustees to join its Board. Our client believes in sport's power to change lives. It works with communities across Somerset and beyond. It uses sport and physical activity to improve health, build confidence, create opportunity, and bring people together, especially those who face the greatest barriers to taking part. The charity is ambitious and outward-looking. It wants to be a modern, sustainable organisation that measures its impact, embraces new ways of working, and builds partnerships across sport, health, education, and the wider community. The Board now wants to strengthen its skills so it can support the charity's next phase of growth and secure its long-term future.
We are looking for two people with skills and experience in one or more of the following:
* Income generation and fundraising. This might include trusts and foundations, major donors, corporate partnerships, community fundraising, or commercial income.
* Charity development. This might include growing and diversifying a charity's income, developing strategy, or guiding an organisation through change.
* Social investment and impact. This might include social finance, impact measurement and reporting, blended finance models, or working with funders and investors focused on social outcomes.
As a Trustee, you will share responsibility for the charity's governance and strategic direction. You will offer constructive challenge and support to the leadership team. You will also bring your expertise to bear on how the charity funds its work and shows the difference it makes. We're looking for experience in income generation, fundraising, charity development, or social investment and impact, gained in the charity, public or private sector. This will be combined with an interest in the power of sport and physical activity to improve lives. You do not need a background in sport but sound judgement, a strategic outlook, and a collaborative, open-minded approach along with a commitment to the values of equality, diversity, and inclusion. Previous board or trustee experience is welcome but not essential. This could be an excellent first board appointment for the right person. The charity is committed to building a diverse Board that reflects the communities it serves, and it welcomes applications from people of all backgrounds.
Time commitment and terms
These are voluntary, unremunerated roles. Trustees are expected to attend board meetings along with occasional sub-committee work and events. Appointments are for an initial term of three years. There is no salary, but the role gives you a chance to use your skills where they will make a real and visible difference. You will help shape the future of an ambitious charity and broaden your own strategic and governance experience Only candidates based in UK and eligible to work in UK are allowed
