Driver / Transport Assistant

• Pay Rate: £12.26 per hr paye

Bury Council are looking for a Driver / Transport Assistant to transport clients with various needs across the borough. This role involves split shifts between the hours of 7:00 am and 18.00pm. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing physical, practical, and emotional support to people with physical disabilities and those whose behaviour challenges our services. A D1 driving license and an enhanced DBS disclosure are essential for this position.

Day-to-day of the role:

• Transport clients from various locations within the borough to centres that fit the client's needs, and return them home later in the day.
• Provide individual responsibility in offering physical, practical, and emotional support during transport.
• Occasionally operate the Courier Service.
• Deal with clients who may display challenging behaviour and ensure a safe and stimulating environment during transport.
• Assist clients to and from the vehicle and during transportation, addressing their practical needs.
• Provide first point of contact between customers and professionals, assessing and addressing any issues during the journey.
• Maintain clear and accurate records of activities and events during transport, including mileage and incident reports.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

• Full valid UK Driving Licence with D1 category.
• Valid Enhanced DBS on the update service.
• Experience in handling physically and mentally challenged clients.
• Ability to provide a sympathetic and tactful approach to clients and their relatives.
• Flexibility to meet service requirements and adapt to changing destinations.
• Strong commitment to safety and adherence to Council Policies.
• Competence in driving accessible minibuses and operating hydraulic passenger lifts.
