Are you a patient, empathetic educator who believes that building confidence is just as important as teaching language skills?

Monarch Education is working with a local authority-led community education programme in Kidderminster to recruit a Community ESOL Tutor for a pilot project supporting adult learners who are new to the UK.

This is a unique opportunity to support asylum seekers, refugees, and other adult learners with very limited English language skills through informal, welcoming ESOL sessions designed to build confidence, encourage community integration, and help learners navigate everyday life in the UK.

Rather than delivering a rigid curriculum, we're looking for someone who can create a supportive environment where learners feel comfortable practising English, asking questions, building social connections, and developing the confidence to engage with their local community.

Essential Requirements

To be considered for this Community ESOL Tutor role in Kidderminster, you must have:

Experience delivering ESOL, English, Adult Education, Functional Skills English, or literacy support
Experience supporting beginner-level learners or individuals with limited English language skills
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
A patient, approachable, and empathetic teaching style
The ability to adapt sessions based on learner needs and emerging discussions
Strong safeguarding awareness
An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one
The right to work in the UKAn ESOL qualification is desirable but not essential for candidates with strong relevant experience in adult education and language support.

About the Programme

This pilot project has been designed to support adult learners aged 18 to 65, with the majority expected to be in their 20s, 30s, and early 40s.

Many learners will be new arrivals to the area, including asylum seekers and refugees who have very limited English and may be accessing structured language learning for the first time.

Sessions will be delivered in community venues across Worcestershire, with the pilot phase initially taking place in Kidderminster. Future delivery may expand into surrounding locations including Bewdley and Stourport.

Group sizes will remain small to encourage participation, confidence-building, and meaningful interaction between learners.

The Role

As a Community ESOL Tutor, you will:

Deliver engaging and informal ESOL sessions for beginner-level adult learners
Adapt teaching to meet varying language abilities and confidence levels
Encourage participation, discussion, and practical language development
Create an inclusive and welcoming learning environment
Support learners to gain confidence using English in everyday situations
Work collaboratively alongside community outreach professionals attending sessions
Identify and report any safeguarding concerns appropriately
Maintain a simple session register and brief record of attendance, topics covered, learner engagement, and emerging needsAdministrative requirements are intentionally light and are expected to take no more than a few minutes at the end of each session.
