Part-Time Financial Controller – Manchester & Surrounding Areas

About the Role
We’re looking for an experienced, detail-driven Financial Controller to join The Part-Time Finance People and support a portfolio of ambitious SME clients across Manchester and the surrounding areas.

This is a hands-on, commercially focused role where you’ll lead the finance function, bring clarity to the numbers, and help business owners make smarter, more confident decisions. You’ll work flexibly on a part-time basis, delivering real value where it’s needed most.

About You
You’re an experienced Financial Controller who thrives in growing SME environments and enjoys making a tangible difference. You’re commercially minded, proactive, and confident communicating financial insights to non-financial stakeholders.

Ideally, you’re already self-employed or operating on a contract basis, with availability of at least 2 days per week and able to start at short notice.

What You’ll Bring

• Strong experience preparing management accounts and financial reports

• Expertise in balance sheet reconciliations

• Proven ability in cashflow management and profit forecasting

• Experience with Xero (with exposure to Sage50 and/or QuickBooks a bonus)

• A track record of implementing and improving financial controls

• Commercial awareness and a practical, business-focused mindset

• Experience supporting year-end processes (excluding statutory accounts)

• Advanced Excel skills (including PivotTables, SUMIFs, and data visualisation)

• Confidence presenting financial insights to non-financial leaders

• Fully qualified (ACCA/CIMA/ACMA/FCCA/ICAEW) or QBE (5+ years), with experience managing a finance team

• Rate: £35 per hour

• Location: Manchester and surrounding areas

• Hours: 2–3 days per week
