Job Description - Intervention Tutor

Job Title: KS1 SEN Specialist Tutor - Literacy, Numeracy & Social Development
Location: Redbridge, London
Pay Rate: £25-£35 per hour
Hours: 15 hours per week
Job Type: Temporary | Part-Time | Term-Time Role

Prospero Teaching is looking for a nurturing and experienced SEN Specialist Tutor to support a KS1 student in Redbridge on a 1:1 basis. This student has a diagnosis of Autism (ASD) and requires tailored support in key developmental areas including literacy, speech and language, numeracy, social interaction, and SEMH (social, emotional, and mental health).

This is a rewarding role for a tutor with a calm, consistent, and child-centred approach, able to work closely with families and professionals to help the student reach their full potential.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Deliver engaging, personalised sessions in early literacy, speech and language, and basic numeracy, aligned with the student's developmental level.
  • Support social communication and interaction skills using visual aids, role-play, and real-life scenarios.
  • Promote emotional regulation and positive behaviours through nurturing, structured strategies.
  • Adapt teaching methods and materials in line with ASD best practices and any EHCP targets.
  • Work closely with parents/carers and professionals to ensure consistent, holistic support.
  • Track progress and contribute to regular updates on the student's development.
Requirements:
  • Experience working with primary-aged children with ASD and additional needs.
  • Strong understanding of KS1 curriculum, early communication strategies, and SEMH interventions.
  • Ability to engage a young learner in creative and interactive ways.
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one).
  • Right to work in the UK.
Desirable:
  • Background in SEN education, Speech and Language, or Early Years/KS1.
  • Knowledge of PECS, Makaton, visual schedules, or Zones of Regulation.
  • Formal teaching or SEN qualifications (e.g. QTS, Level 3+ SEN, SaLT assistant experience).

This is a fantastic opportunity for a passionate SEN tutor to make a meaningful impact in a young learner's educational and personal development journey.

Prospero Teaching is acting as an education recruitment agency for this role. All applicants must pass safeguarding and vetting procedures prior to starting. Supporting the welfare and development of children is at the heart of what we do.
