Job Description - Lay Chaplain

Join Our Client’s School Community as a Lay Chaplain/Faith Leader!

Are you passionate about nurturing faith and providing spiritual and pastoral care? We are seeking a dedicated Chaplain to join our college community and make a meaningful impact on the lives of our students and staff.

As a successful Catholic college, our client aims to embody the Christian values expressed in the Gospel by creating a nurturing community where young people can develop morally, intellectually, and spiritually. Their goal is for students to graduate with strong academic qualifications and to become resilient individuals who take responsibility for themselves and the impact of their actions on others.

Based in the Swindon area, the role of Lay Chaplain requires 37 hours of work per week for 39 weeks each year (Term Time + Training Days). The paid weeks total 44.65, with a take-home salary for these hours of £23,908. Required start date: September 2025.

Key Responsibilities:

As a Witness:

  • Inspire through example and help others recognise God's love.
  • Encourage involvement in social justice and global citizenship projects.

As a Pastor:

  • Be a visible and approachable presence around the school.
  • Accompany individuals through their life journeys.
  • Support the Head Teacher in their role as faith leader.

As a Leader:

  • Develop and lead a collaborative chaplaincy team.
  • Offer prayer opportunities and support liturgical life.
  • Celebrate Mass and sacraments, or coordinate with local clergy.
  • Organise activities for major Church feasts and seasons.
  • Ensure the school environment reflects our Catholic Christian identity.

As an Educator:

  • Enhance the Religious Education curriculum.
  • Support staff and students in planning and leading liturgies.
  • Develop a school retreat program and promote participation in the sacramental life.

Requirements:

  • GCSE A- C including English and Maths.
  • Previous experience working in youth ministry within a Catholic church, school, or retreat settings.
  • Experience leading liturgy and prayer.
  • An understanding of Lasallian spirituality.
