Job Description - Part Time Payroll Assistant

Payroll Assistant (Part Time – 9 Month Contract)
Location: Hayes, Middlesex
Hours: 20 per week over 5 days
Salary: £17,000 pro rata + excellent benefits + amazing product discounts

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a detail-focused Payroll Assistant to join a respected international business on a 9-month fixed-term, part-time basis.

Working 20 hours per week over five days, this position offers both flexibility and responsibility, contributing to a high-performing finance team.

2. The Role

The Payroll Assistant will be responsible for managing the UK payroll function, processing two monthly payrolls, and ensuring compliance with all relevant legislation and internal policies. Reporting to the Finance Manager and working closely with HR, this role will play a key part in the smooth operation of payroll activities.

Key responsibilities:

  • End-to-end processing of two payrolls per period, including checks and BACs transmission
  • Gathering, validating, and inputting data into payroll systems
  • Ensuring employees are paid accurately and on time
  • Responding to payroll queries and liaising with internal departments as needed
  • Maintaining compliance with payroll laws, procedures, and deadlines
  • Investigating and resolving data discrepancies
  • Generating payroll reports for audit and internal use
  • Liaising with HMRC as necessary
  • Assisting in preparing P11Ds and PSA documentation
  • Maintaining confidentiality and accuracy at all times

This is a hands-on, standalone role ideal for someone who enjoys taking ownership and working with precision.

3. About You

You’ll be a capable and proactive payroll professional who’s confident working independently but also values being part of a team. Your attention to detail, accuracy, and communication skills will set you apart.

Key requirements:

  • Solid experience in payroll processing within a commercial environment
  • Familiarity with payroll systems (ADP iHCM knowledge beneficial but not essential)
  • Proficient in MS Office 365, particularly Excel, Outlook, and Word
  • Exceptional attention to detail and numerical accuracy
  • Clear communication skills and a professional approach to resolving queries
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to prioritise effectively
  • Self-motivated and able to work to deadlines with minimal supervision
  • Discreet and professional when handling confidential information
  • Positive, team-focused attitude and flexible mindset

This role would suit someone with a methodical working style and a passion for accuracy.

4. The Offer
