Job Description - Part-Time Payroll Officer

Location: Oxford

Job Type: Part-time (21 hours per week), Permanent

Salary: £33,482 - £39,542 per annum FTE

Reed Accountancy are proud to partner with a rapidly growing institution in Central Oxford. Our client is seeking a Payroll Officer to join its friendly and supportive Finance team, offering the opportunity to manage the payroll operations and ensure compliance with relevant regulations, contributing to the smooth financial management of the business.

Day-to-Day of the Role:

  • Manage the main monthly payroll for approximately 200 staff, as well as additional payrolls for casual workers and external tuition.
  • Collect and process payroll information including starters, leavers, pay changes, and statutory payments.
  • Ensure compliance with the Living Wage Foundation and correct tax treatments for external tutors.
  • Generate payroll reports and maintain monthly deduction schedules.
  • Serve as the first point of contact for all payroll and pension-related queries.
  • Work closely with HR and other departments to ensure seamless payroll integration and compliance.
  • Provide cover for other finance roles, such as purchase ledger and battels queries.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • GCSE in Maths (Grade C or above) and educated to A Level standard.
  • CIPP or other recognized payroll qualifications.
  • Experience in a similar payroll position, preferably within higher education.
  • Strong understanding of payroll legislation and ability to manage multiple demands.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and proficiency in Excel.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and high levels of accuracy in all tasks.
