Passenger Assistant Kirklees

• Pay Rate: £12.95 paye

• Job Type: Part-time (Temporary Contract until 01/12/2025)
• Working Hours: 7:00 am - 18:00 pm (on a rota basis, covering 6 hours a day, and split shifts will apply as well)

Kirklees Council are looking for thirty-five part-time Passenger Assistants to provide a high-quality transport service for children and young adults with special educational needs. This role is crucial in ensuring the safety, comfort, and well-being of passengers during their commute to and from school or college.

• Assist children and young adults with special educational needs during their transport to and from educational institutions.
• Attend to the personal, physical, and medical needs of passengers, ensuring their safety and comfort at all times.
• Support the driver in operating vehicle equipment such as doors, ramps, and safety restraints, and ensure that all passengers disembark safely.
• Monitor and report on the condition of the vehicle and communicate any concerns or incidents to the Transport Office.
• Liaise effectively with parents, transport officers, schools, and colleges to ensure smooth operation and communication.
• Handle sensitive items such as pupils' dinner money, medicines, and messages securely and responsibly.
• Administer emergency medication and first aid when necessary and respond appropriately to medical emergencies.
• Maintain strict confidentiality regarding passengers' personal medical information in compliance with GDPR.
• Participate in training sessions organised by the Council to enhance service quality and personal skills.

• Ability to work flexibly across different routes within Kirklees and adapt to changes at short notice.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively interact with children, parents, and educational staff.
• Experience in handling medical emergencies and administering first aid (training provided if necessary).
• Commitment to maintaining high standards of vehicle cleanliness and passenger hygiene.
• A valid Enhanced DBS on the update service is required.
• Previous experience in a care or SEND - related role
• Effective communication with children, parents and school staff
• Compassionate and clear communication, particularly with SEND children.
• Sensitive to a range of disabilities and special needs
• Patience and consistency to provide a stable presence for the children
• Passenger Assistants are picked up and dropped off at their own homes
