We’re at a big turning point at SGN.
The world is changing fast — expectations from customers,
communities, regulators and our stakeholders are rising. Technology is moving
quicker than ever. We need to catch up and then stay ahead if we want to be the
best GDN in the UK. We need to make sure we’re set up for success. We’re
already making great progress with a new CEO and Executive Team, a new COO
function and we’ve just moved from five to nine regions in our Southern
network, creating closer communities for our people. We’ve opened a Business
Services Centre, giving everyone easier access to the services they need,
and we’ve brought in 550 new vans, with hundreds more on the way.
But this is just the beginning. We’re focusing on three
big goals:
Supporting our frontline first
Cutting waste, not corners
Working smarter, together
We’ve already started work on a five-year programme that
will help us achieve our goals, and our journey will continue over the next 3-4
years.
We’re now offering fantastic opportunities
for colleagues to help us on this exciting journey.
The Portfolio Planner will play a key role in supporting
strategic planning and delivery assurance across the COO Transformation
Portfolio. This role is responsible for maintaining the Integrated Milestone
Plan, ensuring dependencies and assumptions are captured and visualised
effectively for different stakeholders, and supporting governance and resource
planning processes.
About the Role
We are looking for a detail-oriented and proactive
Programme Planner to support the successful delivery of complex programmes by
developing, managing, and maintaining integrated plans and schedules. As a key
part of the programme delivery team, you will ensure that timelines,
milestones, dependencies, and risks are clearly defined, tracked, and
communicated to stakeholders. This role is crucial in enabling effective
decision-making, resource allocation, and programme governance
We deliver safety, warmth, and comfort to
homes and businesses. Every role, whether in the office or on the front line,
plays a key part in this mission. Here’s how you will contribute…
Develop and maintain integrated programme plans, timelines, and schedules in collaboration with project and workstream leads.
Monitor progress against plans, identify potential schedule risks or slippage, and work with stakeholders to implement corrective actions.
Facilitate schedule reviews and planning workshops to ensure alignment across workstreams and dependencies.
Support the Programme Manager in tracking key milestones, critical paths, and delivery timelines across all phases of the programme lifecycle.
Provide high-quality planning updates, dashboards, and reports to support programme governance and executive decision-making.
Ensure accurate documentation and version control of plans and schedules.
Assist with the coordination and tracking of programme interdependencies, resource constraints, and deliverables.
Continuously improve planning standards, tools, and templates to enhance programme delivery efficiency.
What you will need
Experience in a programme or project planning role within a complex, multi-project environment.
Strong understanding of planning principles and project management methodologies (e.g., PRINCE2, MSP, Agile).
Proficiency in planning tools such as Microsoft Project, Primavera P6, or equivalent.
High level of attention to detail and strong analytical skills.
Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement abilities.
Ability to work under pressure and manage competing priorities.
Familiarity with risk, dependency, and change management processes.
Relevant qualification in project management or planning is desirable
Not sure you
meet every requirement?
Research shows some
people – particularly women and those from underrepresented backgrounds – may
hesitate to apply unless they meet every criteria. At SGN, we value
diverse backgrounds, experiences and perspectives.
If this role interests
you but you’re not sure you tick every box, we’d still love to hear from you.
You might be just who we’re looking for – now or in the future.
Why SGN?
SGN is a leader in pioneering research and development
toward a net-zero energy system. Our cutting-edge technologies and innovative
thinking are driving change in the gas industry, all while keeping people
safe and warm.
About us | Benefits | Diversity and inclusion
If you require any accommodations or support
during the application process, reach out to us. We're here to help ensure an
inclusive and accessible experience for everyone.
