SEMH Teaching Assistant

We are seeking a compassionate, experienced, and highly motivated SEMH Teaching Assistant to join our dedicated team in Hatfield. The successful candidate will provide essential support to students with Special Educational Needs, including profound and multiple learning disabilities, helping them achieve their full potential in a nurturing and inclusive environment within the education and training sector.

This role is perfect for an experienced SEN Teaching Assistant with a strong understanding of SEMH, who is eager to continue supporting students in an education and training environment. You will be working closely with students who require additional support, collaborating with mental health specialists, therapists, and SEN staff to ensure the best outcomes for children facing social, emotional, and behavioural challenges.

Job Title: SEMH Teaching Assistant

Day Rate: £85 - £95

Responsibilities of a SEMH Teaching Assistant:

• Provide one-to-one and small group support to students with PMLD and SEMH needs.
• Assist in developing and implementing individual education plans (IEPs) in collaboration with teachers and other professionals.
• Support students with physical needs, including personal care, mobility, and feeding, while ensuring their dignity and safety.
• Foster a supportive and encouraging learning environment for all pupils.
• Work closely with the SEN team to monitor student progress and adapt teaching strategies accordingly.
• Use specialist equipment and resources to engage students in learning activities.
• Collaborate with parents, carers, and external professionals to ensure a holistic approach to student development.

Requirements for SEMH Teaching Assistant:

• Previous experience working with children or young people with PMLD or SEMH in an educational setting.
• A caring, patient, and empathetic approach to working with students with complex needs.
• Knowledge of Makaton, PECS, or other communication methods is highly desirable.
• Understanding of the SEN Code of Practice and safeguarding policies.
• Relevant qualifications (e.g., Level 3 Supporting Teaching and Learning, SEN diploma, or equivalent).
• Strong teamwork and communication skills.
• Ability to commute to Hatfield and the surrounding areas.
