SEN HLTA (Higher Level Teaching Assistant)
Location: Bristol
Contract Type: Full Time/ Part Time
Salary: up to £625 a week DOE
Start Date: September 2025

A lovely SEN and SEMH School in Bristol is looking to appoint a dedicated and experienced SEN HLTA to support our pupils with special educational needs. This is an exciting opportunity for a passionate professional to contribute to a school that places inclusion and pupil well-being at the heart of everything we do.

About the Role:
As a SEN HLTA, you will:

  • Deliver pre-planned lessons and interventions across a range of subjects and key stages, under the guidance of teaching staff and the SENCO
  • Provide targeted support to pupils with a variety of SEN, including ASD, ADHD, speech and language difficulties, learning delays, and SEMH needs
  • Support the assessment, planning, and delivery of individual education plans (IEPs), behaviour plans and EHCP targets
  • Promote engagement, independence, and progress for pupils both in and out of the classroom
  • Provide mentoring, training, and support to teaching assistants where appropriate
  • Contribute to reviews and meetings for pupils with SEN, liaising with parents, external professionals, and the wider pastoral team

Requirements:
To be considered for this role, candidates must:

  • Hold HLTA status (achieved via a recognised UK HLTA preparation programme) or have an equivalent Level 4 (or above) qualification in education or child development
  • Have GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths at Grade 4/C or above
  • Have proven experience supporting pupils with SEND in a UK primary, secondary or special school setting
  • Have up-to-date knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice (2015), EHCP processes, and safeguarding practices in education
  • Have a strong understanding of UK educational frameworks and national curriculum expectations
