Job Description - SEN Teaching Assistant

SEN Teaching Assistant | Full-Time | Immediate Start | Stevenage

Location: Stevenage

Contract: Full-Time, Term-Time

Salary: £460 - £500 per week

Are you driven by a desire to understand behaviour, support vulnerable young people, and put your academic knowledge into action in the education and training sector? This SEN Teaching Assistant could be the right fit for you.

Academics are currently recruiting for a caring, proactive, and emotionally intelligent SEN Teaching Assistant to join a forward-thinking and inclusive school in Stevenage. This setting supports children and young people with a wide range of special educational needs, including autism, ADHD, SEMH, and behavioural challenges.

This is an excellent opportunity for a Psychology or Criminology graduate looking to gain hands-on experience in a role where theory meets practice. Whether your long-term goal is to pursue a career in educational psychology, mental health, youth justice, or teaching, this role offers the foundational experience you need within the education and training sector.

Your Role Will Include:

  • Supporting students 1:1 and in small groups with learning, emotional development, and social engagement
  • Applying your academic understanding of behaviour, trauma, and developmental psychology in a real-world setting
  • Collaborating with teachers, SENCOs, and therapists to maintain a calm, structured, and nurturing classroom
  • Building positive relationships, setting clear boundaries, and acting as a reliable and consistent role model

We're Looking For:

  • Graduates in Psychology, Criminology, or a related field
  • Individuals who are calm, empathetic, and emotionally resilient
  • A genuine passion for supporting children and young people with SEN or mental health needs
  • Experience working with children or vulnerable individuals (preferred but not essential)
