Primary SEND/SEMH Tutor - Minehead

Quantum Scholars are looking for a patient, supportive and experienced Primary SEND/SEMH Tutor to provide personalised one-to-one educational support to a young person in Minehead.

The successful tutor will have experience supporting primary-aged children with SEND and/or SEMH needs and be confident adapting their teaching approach to meet individual learning, emotional and behavioural needs. Experience supporting children who may struggle with emotional regulation, engagement or traditional learning environments would be highly desirable.

The role will focus on building a positive relationship with the learner, supporting academic progress and helping them develop confidence, independence and positive attitudes towards education. A calm, consistent and nurturing approach will be essential.

This is an in-person tutoring role and is not online work.

The role may involve:

Providing personalised one-to-one educational support to a primary-aged learner.
Supporting a child with SEND and/or SEMH needs.
Adapting lessons, resources and activities to meet individual needs.
Supporting English, Maths and other areas of the primary curriculum according to the tutor's experience.
Identifying gaps in learning and providing targeted support.
Breaking learning into manageable and accessible steps.
Supporting children who may experience anxiety, emotional regulation difficulties or disengagement.
Creating a calm, structured and positive learning environment.
Using engaging and creative activities to encourage participation.
Using the learner's interests and strengths to support engagement.
Developing confidence, independence and resilience.
Supporting positive behaviour and engagement with learning.
Providing encouragement and reassurance during periods of frustration or difficulty.
Monitoring progress and providing appropriate feedback.
Building a positive and trusting relationship with the learner.
Working collaboratively with parents/carers and other professionals involved in the child's support.
Maintaining professional boundaries and confidentiality.
Following safeguarding procedures and promoting the welfare of the child.

Essential requirements:

Experience working with primary-aged children with SEND and/or SEMH needs.
Experience providing one-to-one educational or tutoring support.
Experience supporting children with barriers to learning or accessing mainstream education.
Ability to adapt teaching and support to individual academic, emotional and behavioural needs.
A patient, calm, flexible and empathetic approach.
Ability to build trusting and respectful relationships with children.
Experience supporting children who may be reluctant, anxious or disengaged from learning.
Strong communication and organisational skills.
Ability to create a positive, structured and nurturing learning environment.
Reliable and consistent approach to work.
Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
Enhanced DBS check and satisfactory references.
