Senior Occupational Therapist

We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Occupational Therapist to join the Community Rehabilitation Team in Elizabeth Quarter. The successful candidate will provide specialist Occupational Therapy to service users with complex mental health needs, supporting recovery, independence and meaningful engagement within the community.

The role involves assessing service users, developing and implementing person-centred Occupational Therapy interventions, and evaluating progress. You will manage an allocated caseload and deliver both individual and group-based interventions, including the design and facilitation of face-to-face and online groups. You will also support service users with their occupational and vocational needs and work closely with community services and partnership agencies to ensure effective coordination of care.

Main Responsibilities

* Provide specialist Occupational Therapy practice within a defined clinical area or pathway, using enhanced clinical reasoning and professional expertise.

* Assess service users with complex mental health needs and develop appropriate, recovery-focused interventions.

* Use the Model of Human Occupation (MOHO) framework and relevant standardised assessments to structure clinical practice, support formulation and measure outcomes.

* Manage and prioritise an allocated caseload effectively, ensuring accurate clinical documentation, treatment records, assessment forms and transfer or discharge reports.

* Plan, deliver and evaluate individual and group-based interventions, including face-to-face and online groups.

* Support service users with occupational and vocational needs, promoting meaningful activity, independence and recovery.

* Provide education and guidance to service users and carers individually or in groups.

* Delegate appropriate clinical tasks to Occupational Therapists and Occupational Therapy Assistants, ensuring activities are within their competence and scope of practice.

* Provide regular supervision, guidance and professional development to junior staff, support workers and Occupational Therapy Assistants.

* Communicate complex, sensitive or distressing information with compassion and professionalism.

* Work effectively with service users, carers, colleagues, statutory organisations, voluntary sector agencies and other community services.

* Contribute to multidisciplinary case reviews and professional Occupational Therapy meetings, supporting coordinated decision-making and consistent practice.

* Support effective links with statutory and voluntary sector organisations to strengthen local pathways and facilitate safe transitions.

* Contribute to audit, clinical effectiveness and research activity, applying findings to improve professional practice.

* Support clinical specialist OTs, operational managers and professional leads with the improvement, development and modernisation of services.

* Ensure practice complies with national and local policies, guidelines and professional frameworks.

Essential Requirements

The successful candidate must have:

* A Degree or Diploma in Occupational Therapy.

* Current HCPC registration.

* Senior post-registration experience within adult mental health services.

* Experience in Occupational Therapy assessments, interventions and recovery-focused practice.

* Experience of staff supervision and multidisciplinary working.

* Experience contributing to audit and continuing professional development.

* Excellent communication, leadership, organisational and problem-solving skills.

* The ability to work autonomously and manage a clinical caseload effectively.
