  • Job Type: Part-time (3 days per week), Temporary. Hybrid working.

The Greater London Authority are looking to recruit a Senior Project Officer (Clean and Healthy Waterways) on an interim 3-month contract to work on the Mayor’s manifesto commitment to improve the health of London’s rivers and other waterbodies. This role is crucial for the development and implementation of strategies aimed at achieving clean and healthy waterways for the benefit of all Londoners.

Day-to-Day of the Role:

  • Support the technical development of plans and actions needed to achieve clean and healthy waterways.
  • Take forward projects identified to improve river health and reduce pollution through innovative solutions such as blue and green infrastructure.
  • Work on the development of the Flood Ready Partnership Catchment Partnership Model, facilitating the transfer of £3 million from four partners to one local authority to deliver Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems (SuDS).
  • Set up funding processes and administration to ensure efficient collation and allocation of funds.
  • Collaborate with priority catchment partnerships, local authorities, and partners on the development of tools and templates for new surface water catchment action plans.
  • Support local authorities in the initial development of pilot plans, ensuring prioritisation of work and effective distribution and monitoring of progress across the catchment partnership.
  • Utilize SuDS opportunity mapping to meet water quality and flood risk ambitions, and support the dissemination of lessons learned to aid the delivery of catchment action plans across other partnerships.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of water policy and water project delivery.
  • Experience in managing funding processes through the FCERM capital programme and local authorities.
  • Strong project management skills and the ability to work collaboratively with multiple and conflicting stakeholders.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Understanding of the barriers to good river health and opportunities to implement pollution reduction strategies.
