Sessional Youth Support Worker  - (Monmouthshire/Abergavenny)


 


We are recruiting a Part Time sessional Youth Support Worker as part of our expanding  Youth Work provision in Monmouthshire. We are looking to recruit a compassionate and enthusiastic individual to join our team to continue to make real impact in the lives of young people. 



 


Job Title:                    Sessional Youth Support Worker


 


Hours of Work:         5 hours per week (mainly late afternoons, evenings and some weekends)


 


Location:                   Abergavenny (Monmouthshire)


 


Salary:                        £12.60 per hour


 


Tenure:                      Fixed term until  31st March 2028 (Please note that funding Is reviewed at the end of each year by the funder)


 


Responsible to:         Youth Team Lead


 


Responsible for:       Volunteers, young people


 


Enhanced DBS will be required for this role


Evidence for permission to work will be required

Project Overview


Funded by Monmouthshire Youth Service, this project aims to build on our work to provide children and young people from diverse ethnic minority backgrounds, aged 10-25 and living in Monmouthshire, the opportunity to have fun, feel happier, participate more, and build confidence in and connections to youth work in Wales.


 


The Project Youth Worker will deliver a programme of youth activities and provision including weekly group drop-in sessions, one to one support sessions, trips as well as liaising with a wide range of local partners and community organisations to provide additional support for young people locally.


 


The service will be delivered by a our Team in Monmouthshire and the PT sessional Youth support Worker will join our existing team. The project sits within and complements a range of other EYST projects supporting ethnic minority young people across Wales, overseen by the Youth Team Lead.


 


Aims of the Post


 


a)     To lead on and deliver the EYST support to ethnic minority children and young people aged 10 to 25 living in Monmouthshire.


b)     To organise and deliver weekly after-school youth clubs as well as one-to-one support to improve the sense of wellbeing, participation and aspirations of ethnic minority children and young people


c)     To work effectively with a wide range of partner agencies to maximise outcomes and opportunities for ethnic minority young people


 



Principal Accountabilities and Main Duties


 


a)     To organise, plan and deliver after-school youth clubs and other project activities including trips and workshops, ensuring they are inclusive and participative


b)     To ensure provision that accommodates the needs of children and young people


c)     To provide one-to-one support to young people accessing the project, including liaising with their families as appropriate.


d)     To support the involvement of young people in all project activities, ensuring their safety, well-being, enjoyment and dignity.


e)     To work as a team with other project workers and volunteers to ensure the safe delivery of all project activities.


f)       To facilitate effective feedback and consultation mechanisms for young people to contribute to project development


g)     To effectively promote the project using a variety of online social media platforms.


h)     Engage with and inform schools and other key statutory and voluntary sector organisations about the project and establish referral pathways


i)       To ensure the collection, entry and return of information as required for monitoring and evaluation


j)       To take part in training, meetings and regular supervision as required


k)     To work within relevant health and safety legislation


l)       To ensure that the project promotes and reflects equality of opportunity and an inclusive approach at all levels


m)   To ensure that Safeguarding and all other relevant policies are implemented


n)     To uphold the confidentiality of information of clients


o)     To ensure administrative and financial systems are effectively maintained


p)     To carry out any other duties that may from time to time be required



     


     


    Person Specification


    1.     Experience of working with young people from the target group


    2.     Knowledge, understanding and empathy for issues affecting children and families from ethnic minorities, including Refugee and Asylum seeker backgrounds.


    3.     Willingness to develop through introductory and continuous youth work training and qualifications. With a commitment to work towards EWC registration as a Youth Support Worker at level 3.


    4.     Experience of working with statutory and voluntary organisations, and good knowledge of local youth opportunities.


    5.     A commitment to the participation of young people in project delivery


    6.     An understanding and commitment to equal opportunities,


    7.     Ability to enthuse and mentor young people


    8.     Good communication and interpersonal skills


    9.     Excellent IT skills, confident using online engagement platforms including Zoom and Teams


    10.  Excellent Social media skills


    11.  Organised and self-motivated


    12.  Knowledge and understanding of Safeguarding including Digital Safeguarding issues.


    13.  Ability to speak a community language other than English (desirable)


    14.  Demonstrable commitment to EYST’s organisational values of Equality, Human Rights, Social Justice and Making a Positive Difference
