Are you passionate about helping young people overcome challenges, rebuild their confidence and discover their potential?

Tradewind Recruitment is looking for a dedicated Student Engagement & Wellbeing Mentor to work in a specialist SEMH school in Colchester, supporting pupils who need additional help to access education, manage their emotions and develop positive relationships.

This is an opportunity to do something genuinely rewarding. You will be supporting young people who may have struggled in mainstream education, helping them feel understood, encouraging positive choices and giving them the consistency they need to make progress.

If you are patient, resilient and passionate about making a difference, this could be the opportunity you have been looking for.

What Will the Role Involve?

Every day will bring new challenges and opportunities to make a difference. Your responsibilities will include:

Building positive, trusting relationships with pupils who may have social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs.

Supporting pupils to engage with lessons and overcome barriers to learning.

Helping young people develop emotional regulation, resilience and confidence.

Encouraging positive behaviour and supporting pupils through challenging situations.

Providing one-to-one and small-group support where required.

Working alongside teachers and other staff to create a safe, structured and supportive learning environment.

Celebrating progress and helping pupils develop the skills they need for the future.

Who Are We Looking For?

We are keen to hear from candidates who are enthusiastic about supporting young people and understand that building trust takes time, patience and consistency.

You may have previous experience as a Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant, Behaviour Mentor, Youth Worker, Residential Support Worker or in another role supporting children and young people.

Experience supporting individuals with SEMH needs, behavioural difficulties, autism, additional learning needs or challenging circumstances would be particularly valuable.

You will need to be:

Calm, patient and resilient, even when situations become challenging.

Confident building positive relationships with young people.

Empathetic, approachable and consistent in your approach.

Able to encourage positive behaviour while maintaining clear boundaries.

Committed to helping pupils achieve their potential, whatever challenges they face.

What Can Tradewind Recruitment Offer You?

Competitive daily pay, dependent on experience and the role.

Opportunities for ongoing and long-term placements.

Access to 2,500+ CPD courses through The National College.

A dedicated education recruitment consultant to support you throughout your placement.

REC Audited Education Gold Standard recruitment practices.

A £100 referral bonus when you refer a friend who subsequently works 10 days with Tradewind Recruitment.

Take the Next Step

If you want a role where your patience, encouragement and commitment can genuinely change a young person's experience of education, we would love to hear from you.
