GSL Education are thrilled to present an incredible opportunity for a reliable Support Worker to join a well-established school in Barnsley. This important role involves providing practical and emotional support to individuals who require assistance with daily living activities. Your work will help clients maintain their independence, improve their well-being, and enjoy a better quality of life.

As a Support Worker, your main duty will be to assist people with practical and emotional support. You will play a vital role in promoting independence, dignity, and well-being, helping students to overcome daily challenges and maintain a fulfilling lifestyle. This involves supporting them with personal care, household tasks, social engagement, and access to community resources.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide practical and emotional support to students with additional needs during lessons and throughout the school day.
• Assist students in developing social skills, managing behaviour, and engaging positively in learning activities.
• Help create a safe, inclusive, and welcoming environment where every student feels valued and supported.
• Monitor and record students’ progress, behaviour, and any concerns, reporting these promptly to teachers and school leadership.
• Promote positive behaviour management techniques and help students develop self-regulation skills.

Requirements of the role:

• Previous experience working with children or young people in a school or similar educational setting is preferred.
• A genuine interest in supporting children’s learning, development, and well-being.
• Strong communication skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and families.
• Patience, empathy, and a calm, supportive approach to working with children with diverse needs.
• Understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures, with a commitment to maintaining a safe environment.
• Basic knowledge of educational practices and the ability to assist with classroom activities.

• Have the right to work in the UK.
• Have an up-to-date CV with two relevant references from within the last 2 years.
• Have a UK driving licence and have access to a vehicle.
• Have an Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service or be happy to apply for one with GSL Education.
