Job Description - Support Worker

Support Worker - Adult Day Services (Autism & Complex Needs) - Islington

Role Summary:

This is a 24-hour/week, 6-month role supporting autistic adults and adults with complex needs in day services and the community. You will provide person-centred support, promote independence, and help individuals engage in meaningful activities. Based in Islington, the role requires flexible, hands-on care with a focus on strengths-based approaches.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide personal care, daily living support, and facilitate community and indoor activities.

  • Support individuals as per their care plans to develop independence and social engagement.

  • Work collaboratively with health and social care professionals.

  • Document progress and maintain accurate records.

  • Promote safety and wellbeing, including safeguarding and risk management.

  • May support evening/weekend events (voluntary, with extra pay).

Essential Skills & Experience:
  • Experience with adults with learning disabilities, autism, sensory/physical needs, or dementia.

  • Familiarity with Care Act 2014, safeguarding, and Mental Capacity Act.

  • Able to manage challenging behaviour and support complex needs.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team.

  • Good written and verbal communication skills.

  • Comfortable with IT systems for care documentation.

  • Physically able to assist with mobility and personal care.

Mandatory Qualifications & Requirements:
  • Level 2 NVQ / QCF Level 3 in Health and Social Care (or equivalent).

  • Willingness to undergo specialist training (e.g. autism, dementia).

  • Enhanced DBS clearance.

  • Able to travel within the borough and work in varied settings (including homes with pets, hoarding, etc.).
