Hours: Night shifts – 3 nights out of 7 (including weekends and Bank Holidays), 21:30pm – 05:00am
About the Role
As a Night Care Support Worker, you will provide personal care and practical support to vulnerable individuals across Calderdale during the night, in line with their care plans. This role plays a vital part in promoting independence, dignity, and well-being, while ensuring all support meets national care standards and council procedures. You will work independently in the community and respond flexibly to changing needs.
Key Responsibilities

• Deliver personal care including assistance with dressing, bathing, toileting, and feeding (including special dietary requirements).
• Perform practical tasks such as bed-making, laundry, emptying commodes, and preparing drinks.
• Read and follow risk assessments, care plans, and medication profiles.
• Monitor and report changes in service users' needs or conditions.
• Maintain accurate records and communicate effectively with colleagues and other agencies.
• Support the induction of new care workers and share good practices.
• Ensure safe driving and proper maintenance checks on council-provided vehicles.
• Respond appropriately to emergencies during the night shift.
• Attend meetings, reviews, and case conferences as required.
• Participate in relevant training and development activities.

Experience & Knowledge

• Basic understanding of the needs of individuals requiring care at home.
• Knowledge and awareness of:

  • Equality and Diversity
  • Safeguarding Adults
  • Safe driving practices
• Understanding of person-centred approaches.
• Experience working with a diverse range of people in a community care setting.
• Flexible and adaptable to changing service demands.
• Experience using care-related equipment.
• Familiarity with medication processes and supporting self-medication.

Skills & Competencies

• Ability to work independently and use initiative.
• Strong verbal, non-verbal, and written communication skills.
• IT literate, including use of Microsoft Office applications.
• Reliable, compassionate, and able to maintain confidentiality.
• Able to follow instructions and respond quickly to changing priorities.

Additional Requirements

• Qualifications: NVQ Level 2 in Health and Social Care or willingness to work towards it.
• Driving: Full UK Category B driving licence held for at least 2 years and access to a vehicle (reasonable adjustments considered for candidates with disabilities).
• Clearance: Enhanced DBS with Adult’s Barred List Check required.
• Safeguarding Commitment: Must promote and uphold safeguarding principles for adults at risk.
