Temporary Handyman/ Maintenance Operative

Hyperion Partners is proud to be working in partnership with a respected and forward-thinking student accommodation provider to recruit a Maintenance Operative for a modern, well-managed site in Southampton.

This is a fantastic opportunity for a skilled and hands-on professional who takes pride in keeping buildings in top condition and enjoys delivering high standards in a student-focused environment.

As the on-site Maintenance Operative, you’ll play a key part in ensuring the safety, functionality, and presentation of the building and its facilities. You’ll be responsible for carrying out a variety of planned and reactive maintenance tasks, supporting health and safety compliance, and responding to student maintenance requests with a positive, solution-led approach.

• Carry out general maintenance tasks including basic plumbing, electrical, joinery, and decorating

• Respond promptly to repair requests and reported faults

• Complete regular site inspections and ensure compliance with health and safety standards

• Assist with flat inspections, move-in/move-out preparations, and room turnarounds

• Work closely with site teams and contractors to ensure a safe and efficient environment

• Keep accurate records of completed work and materials used

• Previous experience in a maintenance, facilities, or building services role (ideally in residential, hospitality, or student housing)

• Basic skills across multiple trades (plumbing, electrics, decorating, etc.)

• Strong problem-solving attitude and ability to work independently

• Good communication skills and a professional, approachable manner

• Knowledge of health & safety and COSHH regulations

• A relevant trade qualification or certification is desirable but not essential

• Right to work in the UK
