Year 6
Part-Time/Full-Time

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a compassionate and experienced 1:1 Teaching Assistant to support a Year 6 pupil with specific additional needs. This role will initially cover 5 mornings per week, with the strong possibility of increased hours as the pupil's timetable expands from a currently reduced schedule.

About the Role:
The successful candidate will provide dedicated, tailored support to a pupil with epilepsy and social and emotional needs, helping them to access and engage fully with the classroom learning environment. Working closely with the class teacher and wider school staff, the 1:1 Teaching Assistant will play a crucial role in delivering personalised support that promotes the pupil's independence, confidence, and wellbeing.

The role involves supporting the pupil within the classroom setting, assisting with participation in lessons and activities, and helping to manage any challenges related to their additional needs. While no personal care is required, the post holder must be alert and responsive to any health and safety considerations linked to epilepsy, ensuring the pupil's safety at all times.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide focused, individualised support to a Year 6 pupil with epilepsy and social and emotional needs during classroom activities

Assist in implementing personalised learning strategies and behaviour support plans as directed by teaching staff

Support the pupil to engage with peers and participate confidently in all aspects of school life

Observe, monitor, and report on the pupil's progress and wellbeing to the class teacher and SENCo

Work collaboratively with the wider school team and external professionals as required

Maintain a safe, positive, and nurturing learning environment

Candidate Profile:

Previous experience working 1:1 with pupils who have additional needs, particularly those with epilepsy or social and emotional challenges, is highly desirable

Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with pupils, staff, and parents

Patience, empathy, and a calm approach, with a genuine commitment to supporting children's development and inclusion

Ability to respond appropriately and calmly in emergencies or challenging situations

Flexibility, reliability, and a proactive attitude to meet the changing needs of the pupil and school environment

Working Hours:

Initially 5 mornings per week, with the potential for additional hours as the pupil's timetable increases

Why This Role?
This is a rewarding position offering the chance to make a real difference in the educational journey and personal development of a young person with complex needs. The role offers ongoing support and training opportunities within a supportive school community.
