Job Description - Childcare Coordinator: Child Development Center

Description

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the supervision of the Child Development Center Director, Childcare Coordinator: Child Development Center is responsible for administrative tasks, child and staff safety and staff/ratio management when the Center Director is not on-site at their child development center. These duties will be performed in accordance with the established goals and policies of the Board of Directors, the overall YMCA mission and all legal and licensing regulations. 

CDC Site: locations/classrooms/hours (subject to change):

The Collaborative - 111 S Wallace Blvd, Ypsilanti, MI 48197 - 5 classrooms: 6 weeks - 10 years of ages. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Administrative Work:

  1. Ensure the local, state, and federal guidelines are followed for child development programs, including food safety, emergency procedures, and health care, as well as NAEYC standards. Maintain record keeping for children and staff in classrooms for emergency situations. 
  2. Maintain classroom emergency bags, emergency totes, and First Aid supplies 
  3. Support the orienting, training, supervising of all childcare staff at their site when the Center Director is not on-site. 
  4. Help facilitate regular staff meetings and staff newsletters. 

Program Management:

  1. In partnership with CDC Director, supervise and maintain developmentally appropriate and safe activites for children aged 6 weeks to 10 years at their site. This includes, but is not limited to, the following programs: Early Childhood Program and Pre-Kindergarten Program
  2. Keep the safety of children as the priority; know how to recognize suspected Child Abuse and Neglect and reporting procedures, as required by the State of Michigan and the Ann Arbor YMCA. 

Program Delivery:

  1. Provide and promote the health and safety of children and staff. Develop and train staff in emergency procedures along with the Center Director
  2. Responsible for care and maintenance of site, including daily cleanup of activities and as well as scheduled site maintenance. 
  3. Attend parent or parent/child events related to program. 
  4. Model positive adult-to-child and adult-to-adult interactions and foster an atmosphere of respect for children and adults

Communication:

  1. Communicate regularly with parents regarding their children.
  2. Meet with supervisor, as needed, providing updates on program. Keep supervisor informed of any important information and provide regular site status updates. 
  3. Use abilities such as attention to details, multitasking and strong oral, auditory and written communication skills to interact with adults and children daily. 
  4. Demonstrate poise and professionalism with staff, parents, participants and others. 

General Functions:

  1. Support the mission, vision and goals of the Ann Arbor YMCA; promote character development and the values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility. 
  2. Promote the value of diversity and the importance of being an inclusive organization to others inside and outside of the organization. 
  3. Participate in the Ann Arbor YMCA annual fundraising campaign; participate in other community events and fundraisers as required.
  4. Staff is expected to take advantage of opportunities for self-development and growth. Attend trainings and conferences as assigned. 
  5. Act as a role model, representing the YMCA
  6. Represent the Y and Y programs at community events and fairs as needed.

Special projects as assigned. This is not intended to be all-inclusive. It is understood that the employee will also perform other reasonably related business duties if requested

Requirements

Must meet one of the following qualifications (applicable Associate Degree or higher preferred) 

  • Associate degree or higher in early childhood education or child development 
  • Associate degree in a child-related field (elementary education, child guidance/counseling, child psychology, family studies and social work) including 18 semester hours of coursework in Early Childhood Education or Child Development and 480 hours of documented experience 
  • Associate degree in early childhood education or child development including 18 semester hours of coursework in Early Childhood Education or Child Development and 480 hours of documented experience
  • Montessori credential with 18 semester hours of coursework in Early Childhood Education or Child Development and 960 hours of documented experience
  • Valid child development associate credential with 18 semester hours of coursework in Early Childhood Education or Child Development and 960 hours of documented experience
  • Sixty semester hours with 18 semester hours of coursework in Early Childhood Education or Child Development and 1,920 hours of documented experience
  1. Must be at least 21 years of age or older (State of Michigan Licensing Requirement)
  2. YMCA Team Leader Certification preferred. - Required or ability/willingness to attain in 2 years.
  3. Demonstrated administrative experience in staff training, supervision, communication skills, and knowledge of federal, state and local licensing regulations. 
  4. Must possess oral, auditory and written communication skills for use with children and adults. 
  5. CPR & First Aid required or ability to obtain within first 90 days 
  6. Physical examination, including a TB test required within 30 days of beginning work. 
  7. Successful completion of DHS criteria. 
  8. Commitment to the YMCA mission and Character Development program.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  1. Ability to walk, stand, and sit (including on the floor) for long periods of time.
  2. Exposure to communicable diseases and bodily fluids.
  3. Must be able to lift and/or assist in lifting children up to 50 pounds in weight.
  4. Must be able to lift and carry food and supplies weighing up to 20 pounds.
  5. Ability to stand or sit while maintaining alertness for several hours at a time.
  6. Position may require bending, leaning, kneeling, and walking.
  7. Ability to speak concisely and effectively communicate.
  8. Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical situations and physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency
  9. Ability to view/enter data for long periods of time.

POSITION FACTS:

Seasonal Full-time

15-20 hours per week of administration tasks. 20-25 hours per week in classrooms.
