Description

Summary:

Under the guidance and supervision of the Director of Diversity, Equity, Just Services Division or designee, Ibero-American Action League is seeking a Climate Justice Fellow to advance energy efficiency initiatives in the City of Rochester. This role is a 12-month fellowship funded by the NYSERDA Climate Justice Fellowship program. The fellow will collaborate with community partners and Ibero staff to develop and implement an advocacy plan that enhances energy efficiency and increases access to beneficial resources for Rochester residents.

Essential Functions:

Candidates must meet the following requirements:

  • Reside in New York State and be eligible to work full-time for 12 months in NYS.
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Commit to the full 12-month fellowship and support Ibero in advancing climate justice and clean energy priorities for disadvantaged communities.
  • Identify as a member of a Priority Population as defined by NYSERDA, which includes:

Veterans

Individuals with disabilities

Low-income individuals (household income = 60% of the State Median Income or receiving public assistance such as HEAP, TANF, SNAP, etc.)

Incumbent or unemployed fossil fuel workers

Previously incarcerated individuals

Young adults (16-24) enrolled in or who have completed a clean energy workforce training program (e.g., BOCES, Conservation Corps, YouthBuild, AmeriCorps)

Homeless individuals

Single parents

  • Attend staff meetings and formal/informal training sessions in/outside the agency.
  • Participates in community activities as representative of the program when assigned.
  • Is available to work outside regularly scheduled work hours as needed.
  • Any other duties may be assigned by the immediate supervisor.

Authority:

The employee exercises initiative and some independence in establishing his/her schedule for meetings with participants, and community agencies. Follows pre-established procedures for program implementation and daily operations. The individuals must be resourceful and able to assess situations and how to best proceed within the framework of the agency as well as the program’s policies and procedures. The employee will consult with their supervisor if in doubt prior to proceeding.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Bilingual in Spanish and English and Spanish only speakers are encouraged to apply.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with others.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Word.
  • Able to provide own transportation and have a valid good standing NYS driver’s license. 
  • The ideal candidate is a strong communicator with the ability to engage diverse community groups and build relationships across Rochester. 

Physical Demands:

The position does require occasional standing, squatting, lifting of up to approximately 10 lbs. and frequent sitting.
