Job Title: CNC Laser Operator
Location: Newport News, VA
Job Type: Full-time | First and Third Shift Available
Pay Rate:$18–$24/Hour (Depending on Experience)
About the Company:
A well-established precision sheet metal manufacturer with over 40 years of industry experience is seeking a skilled CNC Laser Operator to join their team. Operating out of a modern 60,000 sq. ft. facility, the company serves a wide range of industries, producing high-quality, accurate metal components in a fast-paced, high-demand environment.
Position Summary:
The CNC Laser Operator is responsible for setting up and operating CNC laser cutting machines to produce precision sheet metal parts. This role involves working with various materials, interpreting technical drawings, conducting quality inspections, and performing routine maintenance to ensure consistent and efficient production.
Shift Information:
- Training: Conducted on first shift (7:00 AM – 3:30 PM)
- Regular Shift: Third shift (12:00 AM – 8:30 AM)
- Candidates must be flexible for both shifts.
Key Responsibilities:
- Set up and calibrate CNC laser machines, including program retrieval, gas selection, and nozzle setup
- Perform routine maintenance: lens cleaning, slag tray clearing, machine inspections
- Load, align, and secure raw materials
- Inspect finished parts using precision measurement tools (e.g., calipers, tape measures)
- Separate finished parts from scrap and maintain accurate production records
- Ensure quality and compliance with production standards
Required Skills and Experience:
- Minimum 3 years of experience operating CNC laser machines
- Ability to read blueprints and technical drawings
- Familiarity with steel, aluminum, and stainless materials
- Skilled in using precision measuring tools (calipers, tape measure)
- Physically capable of lifting 50–75 lbs and standing/bending for long periods
- Comfortable working in both hot and cold environments
- Able to work independently and make decisions on the floor
Preferred Qualifications:
- Sheet metal fabrication experience
- Basic knowledge of G and M Code editing
- Strong situational awareness and attention to detail
