About Funga

Funga is a public benefit corporation harnessing forest fungal networks to address the climate crisis. We combine modern DNA sequencing and machine learning technology with breakthrough research on the forest microbiome to put the right native, biodiverse communities of mycorrhizal fungi in the right place. This leads to more quality wood created more quickly, more carbon sequestered, and more resilient forests. We serve land partners seeking to implement regenerative forestry practices that improve productivity and sustainability, and corporate carbon buyers building high-quality carbon removal portfolios with strong social and biodiversity outcomes. We’re a team of passionate scientists and builders on a mission to draw down at least three gigatons of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere by 2050.

If you are excited by starting new things, learning as you go, and being hands-on in applying your work to the private sector, you will dig working with us. We encourage you to apply even if only some of the below criteria are met—just make sure to tell us why you’re excited about Funga!

About the Role

Funga is seeking a Contract and Compliance Specialist to support the review, execution, organization, and lifecycle management of contracts across the organization. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring contracts are processed accurately, tracked consistently, and communicated effectively to internal stakeholders. You will also own compliance with contract, state, and federal requirements that guide our work.

You’ll work closely with Business Operations, Legal, Finance, Land Enrollment, and external counsel to support smooth contracting workflows while maintaining strong documentation and compliance standards. This role is ideal for someone who is highly detail-oriented, process-driven, and comfortable managing multiple contracts in a fast-moving, collaborative environment.

In This Role, You Will Lead:

Contracts Administration & Lifecycle Management

  • Coordinate the end-to-end contract process, including intake, review routing, execution, storage, and renewal tracking

  • Maintain accurate, up-to-date records of all contracts using contract management systems and shared documentation tools

  • Track key contract terms such as effective dates, expiration dates, renewal notices, payment obligations, and compliance requirements

  • Ensure executed contracts are properly archived and accessible to relevant internal teams

Contract Review & Coordination

  • Perform first-line administrative and structural review of contracts prior to legal review, flagging missing information, inconsistencies, or non-standard terms

  • Coordinate with internal stakeholders (Operations, Finance, Land Enrollment, Leadership) to gather required inputs and approvals

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for contract logistics with vendors, partners, and landowners

  • Manage communications and handoffs with external legal counsel as needed

Land & Program Contract Support

  • Support the Land Enrollment team by coordinating lease and program agreement execution for landowners participating in Funga’s Carbon Program

  • Track land agreements through execution, amendments, and renewals, ensuring alignment with program requirements

  • Maintain clear records to support downstream reporting, compliance, and audit needs

  • Own accurate lease records within lease accounting system VisualLease

Compliance & Cross-Functional Enablement

  • Ensure contract requirements are clearly communicated to functional teams responsible for implementation and compliance

  • Support audit readiness by maintaining organized, complete, and searchable contract documentation

  • Support fundraising and deal readiness by maintaining an organized, robust data room and coordinating responses to external diligence requests

  • Partner with Finance to ensure contract terms align with invoicing, payment schedules, and financial controls

  • Assist in updating and maintaining contract-related SOPs, templates, and internal guidance

  • Ensure Funga’s business registration is up to date with our daily operations, leading our state registration, reporting, and ongoing compliance efforts where we have an on-the-ground or virtual presence

Our Ideal Candidate Will Have:

  • 3-5 years of experience supporting contracts, leases, legal operations, or vendor agreements in an operations, legal, or compliance role

  • Experience working with land leases, renewable energy options or agreements, and/or real estate deals is a strong plus

  • Demonstrated experience and comfort working cross-functionally with Legal, Finance, Operations, and external partners

  • Familiarity with contract and project management systems, document management tools, and approval workflows

  • Experience with Asana, VisualLease, and/or HubSpot or similar tools is a major plus

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple contracts simultaneously

  • Service-orientation: you treat internal teams and external partners as your customers

  • Bias for action: you seize opportunities for improvement in process, product, and communication. You are willing to take informed risks and decisions that create value now versus perfection later.

  • Clear written and verbal communication skills

  • NOTE—please apply if you feel you are qualified, but don’t necessarily meet all of the above criteria!
