Job Description - Dance Teacher Leave Replacement (K-12)


The Nightingale-Bamford School seeks a Dance Teacher sabbatical leave replacement for the Fall Semester 2026-2027. 

This is a part-time (.75FTE), 10 month, exempt position starting on August 31, 2026

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE (but are not limited to): 

  • Teaching 8 + sections of Dance in the Lower and Middle Schools with the potential of teaching and Upper School Dance History Class
  • Ability to create and implement age-appropriate lesson plans that complements existing K-12 dance curriculum
  • Willingness to be an active participant in the Professional Community including weekly meetings (Tuesdays 3:30-5:00)
  • Complete grade reports (Lower School in December; Middle School in January).
  • Ability to manage class sizes of 25 students and maintain a safe, supportive space for all dancers
  • Contributing to curriculum development and revision in collaboration with other faculty
  • Pursuing appropriate professional development to build content knowledge, incorporate new pedagogical approaches, and keep current in the field
  • Additional tasks and duties as assigned
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 
  • Bachelor’s degree in Dance  or a related subject, MFA preferred
  • Embodied dance practice and expertise in ballet, modern, and jazz
  • Three to five years teaching Dance at the elementary or middle school level
  • Excellent classroom management skills
  • Employing best practices of pedagogy

SALARY

In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, this .75 FTE position's annual salary range is $56,250- $80,000. When extending an offer, Nightingale considers factors such as (but not limited to) the position's scope and responsibilities, the candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, and market and organizational considerations.
