Job Description - Director Spring Camp

Camp is week of 4/13/26 - 4/17/26

Hours: Monday - Friday 7:00 am -5:30 pm   

Position Summary:

The Director, Spring Camp & Alternate Director will be responsible for the daily operation of the specified program(s), and in providing a supportive, respectful, safe, and healthy environment for children enrolled in YWCA Hartford Region Summer Camp. The role will support the Kidslink and Camp Manager in the implementation of activities geared to meet the developing needs of a large group of children and challenge the interests of the children productively and safely. 

Environment: 

The job operates in a summer camp setting, including working outside daily. The employee will interact with children from five to twelve years old. The employee will also interact with families and peers regularly.

Essential Functions of the Job:

· Responsible for the supervision, programming, and safety of campers and staff;

· Create a climate in the group that will foster the goals and objectives of the YWCA Hartford Region;

· Report immediately to the supervisor any evidence of child abuse, including physical, mental, emotional, or neglect;

· Consistently provide friendly, courteous assistance, exceeding customers’ expectations every day, which includes building and maintaining healthy professional relationships with parents, children, and staff;

· Support and contribute to a safe, clean environment for staff and customers;

· Is familiar with and carries out emergency procedures, building rules, OEC regulations, and YWCA policies and procedures;

· Arrive on time for scheduled shifts, wearing appropriate uniform and nametag, and prepared for all assignments;

· Keep accurate, detailed records of incident reports and other necessary documentation;

· Assist camp counselors with planning, development, and implementation of quality camp programming;

· Participate in training and other professional development activities to enhance knowledge and understanding of the organization’s mission and initiatives; align programs and services both implicitly with the YWCA Hartford Region’s mission;

· Assume responsibility for leadership and guidance to those campers in daily living skills, with special attention to:

  • safe environment and program for all participants;
  • personal hygiene, safety & manners;
  • camper's personal interactions with respect to others;
  • camper participation in all camp activities;
  • camper personal growth, self-confidence, and independence; and

· Other duties as assigned.


Requirements

 

Job Requirements: 

· Must be at least 21 years of age;

Certifications & Licenses:

· Current certification in Standard First Aid and CPR for the Professional Rescuer required (YWCA can provide training);

· Must meet all state licensing requirements;


Salary Description

$20.00/hour
