Job Description - eBook Production Specialist - Contract Role

We are currently seeking an eBook Production Specialist (Contractor) to support a high-volume backlist accessibility initiative. Reporting to the Senior Print Production Manager and working closely with the eBook Production Coordinator, this is a 6-month, part-time contract role. It is ideal for someone with 3–5 years of experience in digital publishing or eBook production who is ready to take ownership of a structured, high-volume workflow. The right candidate is a self-starter who operates well independently, is highly organized and process-oriented, and brings a strong focus on quality and accountability.

This role will focus exclusively on preparing, tracking, and quality-checking eBook files as they move through our outsourced conversion workflow, ensuring our backlist catalog meets current quality and accessibility standards.

This is a remote contract position at $28 per hour, capped at 29 hours per week. The role is fully remote, and a company computer and necessary software will be provided.

What You’ll Do
Accessibility Workflow Management
  • Prepare and validate backlist eBook files for vendor conversion
  • Ensure files meet internal specifications
  • Manage title intake and maintain organized tracking systems
Vendor Coordination
  • Send files to external conversion partner
  • Monitor turnaround timelines and proactively flag delays
  • Ingest completed files into internal systems
  • Coordinate corrections and resubmissions as needed
Quality Assurance
  • Perform structured spot checks on converted eBook files
  • Verify file integrity, formatting accuracy, and accessibility elements
  • Maintain consistency in metadata and file naming standards
Production Tracking & Reporting
  • Track monthly production against defined volume targets
  • Maintain accurate documentation of title status
  • Identify workflow gaps and contribute to process improvements
What You Bring
  • 3-5 years experience in publishing production and digital workflows
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills
  • Exceptional attention to detail
  • Ability to manage repetitive, high-volume work with accuracy and consistency
  • Comfort working independently in a remote environment
  • Clear written communication skills
  • Proficiency on the Macintosh platform and Adobe Creative Cloud, particularly InDesign, Dreamweaver, and Photoshop
  • Familiarity with eBook reader software, particularly Kindle Previewer and Adobe Digital Editions
  • Understanding of eBook accessibility standards and specifications
  • Must love books — and believe they should be accessible to every reader
Please send your resume and a cover letter outlining your experience and interest in the position.
