Job Description - Education Programs Assistant

DC Arts and Humanities Education Collaborative is a service organization for arts and humanities supporters who are committed to advancing equitable access for DC public school students. The Collaborative directly responds to inequities within DC’s education system by bridging the gap between arts and humanities providers and DC public schools. Our model is built around three core components: education program facilitation, professional development for educators and partners, and data-informed advocacy. Through this interconnected model, DC Collaborative strengthens the arts education ecosystem—ensuring teachers and program providers have the tools and support they need to thrive. By supporting schools, students, and partners holistically, we are cultivating a learning environment where engagement, belonging, and creativity are possible for every DC student.


The Education Programs Assistant reports to the Director of Education Development and Partnerships. This is a 30 hours/week, part-time contracted position. This job description indicates the required skills and responsibilities to fully support the organization’s programs and services:



Required Qualifications 



  • Familiarity of best practices within the arts and humanities field.

  • Familiarity with DC’s public school system; including understanding local realities and challenges.

  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.

  • Able to complete tasks and responsibilities independently, and a detail-oriented nature.

  • Self-starter who acknowledges possibilities and problem-solves creatively.

  • Commitment to DC Collaborative’s mission, vision, and values.

  • Ability to work collaboratively on multiple and concurrent projects.

  • A desire and enthusiasm for change, innovation and transformation.

  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, G-suite and Adobe Creative Suite.



Education Programs Support:



  • Assist with the registration and communication services provided through Education department initiatives.

  • Assist Education Programs Manager with Arts and Humanities For Every Student.

  • Update and maintain the listings for the programs catalogue.

  • Assist in the creation of program registration forms with the Education Programs team. 

  • Equitably assign and confirm school registrations using DCC rubrics with the Education Programs team.

  • Work closely with the Education Programs team in drafting and editing department collateral, such as marketing copy, language for email communications, and brochures. 

  • Support the annual Teacher Appreciation event.

  • Assist with bi-annual Teacher and Provider Orientations.

  • Assist with leading and/or creating professional development workshops.

  • Provide logistical information, assessment links, and other needed information to school contacts in a timely manner.

  • Assist with enforcing programmatic policies and procedures; including the creation of relevant and necessary materials. 



Transportation Coordination:



  • Serve as the main communications contact for teachers, schools, and bus vendors. 

  • Provide transportation logistic services including, but not limited to, booking initial itinerary, assisting with scheduling changes, providing final transportation details to school contacts. 

  • Maintain positive relationships with approved local bus vendors; negotiate fair pricing and policy adherence.

  • Remain consistently updated with DCPS and local schools about transportation policies.

  • Facilitate transportation payments in a timely manner; distribute invoices to appropriate payers. 

  • Track all data pertaining to the Forward the A.R.T.S. Fund; including income and expenses. Provide quarterly reports to DC Collaborative staff. 

  • Report on best practices/trends regarding transportation challenges for schools and partners.  



Additional Responsibilities:



  • Attend weekly 1:1 meetings with the Director of Education Development and Partnerships.

  • Attend weekly First Things Staff and Programming meetings.

  • Attend Member and Board meetings, as needed

  • Collate data for grant applications and presentations.

  • Participate in organization strategic planning.



Compensation:


$570/week, with an estimated 30 hours per week. This is a contract position with no benefits. The role is primarily remote, with occasional in-person attendance at events and meetings. Priority will be given to applicants who live in the DC area, but we welcome residents in the East Coast to apply.
