EMT-Trainee Opportunity

Job Description - EMT-Trainee Opportunity

JOB SUMMARY: Emergency Medical Technician - On Job Training (OJT) Opportunity. MedStar understands that new EMTs are not getting the field/clinical experience in their EMT classes.  As a training organization ourselves we recognize this downfall and have developed a training opportunity for new EMTs to work alongside other experienced providers to obtain experience and additional skills not offered in school.

TRAINING PROGRAM: The goal is to build confident, and experienced EMTs who can work alone or with other providers who will assess and often give definitive care to those attending/participating in special events, endurance sports, and other specialty venues. These trainees will work a minimum of 8-10 shifts where they will be coached and monitored in their patient care, bedside manner, creativity, quick thinking, stocking, communications, information gathering, and report writing. No specific amount of required training events are set in stone but based upon the patient contacts and abilities of the trainee. During this period the EMT-OJT will be paid at an entry-level rate as described in this job description.  All of the same criteria for applying and process will be the same as all other EMTs, in order to transition easily upon successful completion of the OJT period. Upon staff review and training completion, the trainee will be transitioned to a basic EMT or EMT-IV if they have completed that course and maintain their required skill level, and will be compensated at that skill level.
