Positions:                                                     6 Forest Restoration Day Laborers



Job Summary


The Community Forest Restoration Project seeks Day Laborers to assist with forest restoration activities on the Kaibab Paiute Indian Reservation. This project focuses on restoring fire-resilient ecosystems, improving forest health, and protecting the Tribe’s cultural and ecological resources. Day laborers will work as part of a field crew to plant native trees and shrubs, remove invasive vegetation, and support land stewardship activities that reduce wildfire risk and improve habitat conditions.



Key Responsibilities



  • Plant native tree species such as Ponderosa pine across restoration sites



  • Plant native shrubs including cliff rose, sagebrush, and greasewood

  • Remove invasive cedar trees and vegetation affected by mistletoe

  • Assist with hazardous fuel reduction to reduce wildfire risk

  • Operate and maintain chainsaws and basic forestry tools

  • Follow safety procedures and wear protective equipment

  • Assist with site preparation and erosion control activities

  • Support environmental education activities when community members or youth programs participate



Project Goals



  • Restore 375 acres of Tribal forest land

  • Plant approximately 3,000 native trees and 1,900 native shrubs

  • Improve ecosystem health and biodiversity

  • Reduce wildfire risk and strengthen climate resilience

  • Engage Tribal youth and community members in land stewardship and environmental education



Preferred qualifications include:



  • Ability to perform physically demanding outdoor work

  • Interest in forestry, natural resource management, or conservation

  • Willingness to learn safe chainsaw operation and planting techniques

  • Ability to work as part of a team in outdoor conditions

  • Commitment to protecting Tribal lands and natural resources



No prior forestry experience is required; training will be provided by project supervisors. 



Minimum qualifications



  • High School Diploma/GED 

  • Ability to work well with end users/internal customers and vendors

  • Must have a valid driver’s license with a good driving record and be insurable

  • Must pass a fingerprint and criminal background check

  • Ability to use computers and peripherals, lifting and carrying computer equipment weighing up to 50 lbs

  • Occasional climbing, crawling, bending and stooping installation and troubleshooting



Work Environment



  • Outdoor field work in forest and rangeland environments

  • Use of forestry equipment including chainsaws and hand tools

  • Safety gear will be provided, including helmets, gloves, safety glasses, and protective chaps
