JOB DESCRIPTION

Title: Assistant Director of Exceptional Student Services & ESS Teacher

Reports to: Director of Exceptional Student Services

Supervises: Exceptional Student Services staff as assigned by the Director of Exceptional Student Services

Job Goals: To assist the Special Education Director in monitoring Exceptional Student Services programs at partnered schools, to maintain Federal and State compliance in all areas, and to Support ESS Students Needs.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Director of Exceptional Student Services to supervise, coordinate, and evaluate the school district’s Exceptional Student Services programs and services.
  • Assist the Director of Exceptional Student Services in collecting, analyzing, and interpreting data as may be necessary and make recommendations concerning programs for students who are eligible for services.
  • Serve as a liaison with state agencies serving exceptional students when necessary
  • Assist in the development and collection of transition plans, post-outcome surveys, parent involvement surveys, and summary of performance forms.
  • Assist with the recruitment, interviewing, and training of all Exceptional Student Services personnel.
  • Interprets the policies and procedures of the Exceptional Student Services Department to administrators, staff, and the public at large.
  • Oversee the Exceptional Student Services extended school year program.
  • Make recommendations for and assist in arranging in-service programs for the Exceptional Student Services personnel.
  • Participate with the Director of Exceptional Student Services in planning professional development collaborations.
  • Plan and attend Exceptional Student Services staff meetings.
  • Investigate the programs of outside facilities in which children of the district are/or may be placed.
  • Make school site visits to monitor the progress of all Exceptional Student Services programs and services.
  • Provide leadership and training for the development, completion, and submission of the district’s annual reports to meet the Arizona Department of Education reporting requirements.
  • Assume responsibility for own professional growth, for keeping current with exceptional student services laws, certification requirements, regulations, literature, and new research findings, and for attending appropriate professional meetings and conferences offered by the Arizona Department of Education.
  • Support ESS Students Needs as needed.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by the Director of Exceptional Student Services.

Education/Certification Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree minimum
  • AZ Special Education Certification
  • Current AZ Fingerprint Clearance Card

1099 Independent Contractor - Compensation is negotiable based on education and experience.

Location: Excessive travel may be required as this job requires being on multiple school sites.
