Duties: Pheasants Forever partnering with the Idaho Department of Fish and Game (IDFG) is looking for 4 technicians and 1 crew lead to serve as a seasonal, riparian habitat restoration team within the sagebrush biome of southern Idaho. The season will start June 17th and run through the end of October. This is a great opportunity to gain experience working with a various partners (state, federal, non-profit, and private) to implement riparian and stream restoration through low-tech process-based restoration techniques.  These positions are key to implementing strategic riparian habitat conservation across jurisdictional boundaries and will have the unique opportunity to work across southern Idaho. These techniques include, but are not limited to: beaver dam analogs, post assisted log structures, and zeedyk structures. Technicians will work an 8 on/6 off schedule. During the work hitch, techs will be expected to camp on site as many of the project sites are remote. Expect a wide array of temperatures and weather conditions. The work itself is demanding, labor intensive, and rewarding.  The majority of the work will be conducted within streams; moving and placing natural materials (I.e., logs, sagebrush, willows) and anchoring materials with wooden posts while wearing waders.  Applicants need to be able to perform hard manual labor with hand tools, lift and carry up to 50 lbs, all while being in or around the water in uneven terrain. Due to the nature of the work and living arrangements, technicians need to enjoy the tedium that field work can create, get along with others in remote, isolating settings, and be comfortable living in working in challenging conditions that are consistently changing.

Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
  • Must be pursuing a career in wildlife management or natural resources field.
  • Must be able to work effectively with governmental agency staff and conservation organization representatives.
  • Ability to work independently with little supervision.
  • Ability to work in an office setting with long periods of time working on a computer.
  • Must be able to follow detailed verbal and written instructions.
  • Valid driver’s license required with an acceptable driving record.
  • Complete and comprehend all training as directed by supervisor(s).
  • Abide by all company policies, rules and safety regulations as directed.
Training and Experience Guideline:
Any combination of training and/or experience that will enable the applicant to possess the required knowledge, skills and abilities.  Applicant must be interested or possess a degree in wildlife management or closely related natural resources field.
