Job Description - Lead Dockhand- Flora-Bama Marina
The Lead Dockhand plays a vital role in maintaining the efficiency, safety, and overall operations of the marina. This position not only ensures guest satisfaction and water safety but also supports the maintenance of the fleet and enforces marina policies among the dockhand team. The Lead Dockhand serves as a mentor for new hires, providing hands-on training and guidance to uphold the highest standards of service and safety.
Key Responsibilities: ● Oversee daily dock operations, ensuring all boats and jet skis are properly prepared for rentals. ● Perform routine maintenance tasks on the fleet, including oil changes, flushing engines, and minor mechanical work. ● Enforce safety policies and procedures among the dockhand team to maintain a secure environment for guests and staff. ● Train new dockhands by having them shadow and learn operational procedures, water safety protocols, and marina best practices. ● Ensure compliance with the Dockhand Manual, adhering to all tracking and operational standards set in place. ● Conduct thorough orientations for boat and jet ski renters, ensuring they understand safety guidelines, proper operations, and waterway rules. ● Monitor and maintain marina slips, ensuring smooth transitions between rentals and that all vessels are properly secured. ● Effectively communicate with the marina office to track reservations, ensure accuracy in records, and report any operational concerns. ● Assist in opening and closing procedures, including restroom checks, trash disposal, supply restocking, and overall marina cleanliness. ● Engage with guests to enhance their experience, answer questions, and provide excellent customer service. ● Other duties as assigned.
Essential Qualifications & Experience: ● Lead Dockhand must have at least 1 year of previous experience as a dockhand at Flora-bama Marina ● Experience in marina operations, boat handling, or marine maintenance is preferred. ● Basic mechanical skills with the ability to perform minor repairs and routine maintenance on boats and jet skis. ● Strong leadership skills with the ability to mentor and train new dockhands. ● Ability to enforce safety policies and operational standards among the team. ● Excellent communication skills to interact with guests, peers, and management effectively. ● Ability to work in outdoor conditions, including hot and humid weather. ● Willingness to work weekends and some evening shifts. ● Strong multitasking and problem-solving abilities. ● Valid driver’s license. ● Ability to lift 50+ pounds. $16 per hour
