Lifeguard (Summer Seasonal)

The Lifeguard at YMCA of Central MA creates a safe and positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals while promoting and maintaining safe swimming conditions in the pool, beach, and surrounding areas in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.

Job Duties:

• Maintains constant surveillance of the swim area while on duty
• Knows, understands, and consistently applies safety rules, policies, and guidelines for the pool and aquatic area – practices PREVENTATIVE lifeguarding
• Knows/reviews all emergency procedures and responds to emergencies immediately in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures. Completes related reports as required
• Remains calm and objective when under pressure or when challenged by others
• Maintains accurate records as required by the YMCA and/or the City of Worcester
• Performs equipment checks and ensures appropriate equipment is available as needed
• Checks the pool or beach for hazardous conditions when arriving – before opening to the publi.
• Performs chemical testing at appropriate times of the day, as required, and takes appropriate action
• Attends all staff meetings and training as required
• Maintains certifications listed under Certificates, Licenses
• Receives and carries out instructions
• Maintain a professional appearance at all times; wears clothing that meets the YMCA dress code.
• Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

• Minimum age of 16
• Certifications: CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid certification.  
• Current YMCA Lifeguarding or Red Cross Lifeguarding and obtain YMCA Lifeguarding Certification within 60 days of hire.
• Oxygen Administration certification (required within 30 days of hire)
• Ability to maintain certification level of physical and mental readiness.
• Must demonstrate lifeguard skills in accordance with YMCA standards.
• Must possess auditory and verbal capabilities to effectively communicate with swimmers and staff  
• Must be able to lift 50 pounds and physically able to perform a rescue

Job Type: Summer Seasonal, Full-Time & Part-Time

Schedule: Weekdays and weekends

Pay: $22.00 per hour. Plus, access to YMCA facilities for all YMCA employees, Employee Assistance Program, and Sick Leave.
