Maintenance Technician - Flooring Installation

POSITION OVERVIEW:

This temporary position is responsible for flooring installation and maintenance projects across BHA properties. The role ensures the preservation of assets, enhances the livability for residents and ensures BHA continues to have quality affordable housing opportunities to offer.   

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

The Temporary Maintenance Technician – Flooring Installation is capable of performing all of the following duties but will be primarily responsible for those assigned to them. 

• Remove and install new common area flooring.
• Install new flooring in units during vacant unit turn and occupied units as assigned.   
• Performs paint preparation and wall painting of common areas, unit turns and building exteriors.
• Performs other duties as assigned. 

WORKING CONDITIONS AND EQUIPMENT USED:

This position works at various Housing Authority properties. Work is performed both indoors and outdoors. The incumbent is exposed to construction site hazards and inclement weather. 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Experience installing commercial flooring in occupied and unoccupied areas preferred. Ability to learn is required.
• Experience preparing for and painting occupied and unoccupied spaces preferred. Ability to learn is required.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and efficiently.  
• Ability to climb, crawl, and work at roof level heights while performing basic construction tasks.
• Knowledge of fall protection/safety practices.
• Ability to read, write, understand the English language, follow and understand oral and written instructions.
• Ability to read and interpret product installation manuals.
• Ability to work effectively with and around a wide range of people.
• Maintain dependable, punctual attendance.

Education and Experience

• 1 year of flooring installation experience preferred.
• 1 year of painting experience preferred.   

Licenses or Certificates

• Must possess valid Washington State Motor Vehicle Operator's License and an acceptable driving record (according to BHA standards).

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Physical

The position requires the incumbent to drive from site to site, lift construction materials, perform repetitive, heavy labor, climb, walk, stand, crawl, and stoop. Must be able to list 50lbs routinely and 75 lbs. with assistance.
