Job Description - Middle School Assistant Field Hockey Coach


About The Park School



The Park School is a Pre-K to Grade 8 independent school in Brookline, MA, dedicated to excellence in education. The cornerstone of Park's program is academic excellence, combining high standards of scholarship and the encouragement of each child to develop to their greatest potential. The Park School is seeking a Middle School Assistant Field Hockey Coach to be part of our after-school athletic program. The position is part-time and paid by a stipend. Responsibilities are on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays.  Practices begin at 3:05 pm. Home games begin at approximately 3:30 PM.  Teams depart for away games at  2:35 pm.  

 

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Assist with planning and leading practices.
  • Support player development and skill-building.
  • Supervise and motivate students during games and practices.
  • Help manage equipment and game-day logistics.
  • Promote positive team culture and sportsmanship.
 

Qualifications

  • Coaching experience at the youth, high school, or collegiate level preferred
  • Teaching experience preferred
  • Enthusiastic about working with middle school students
  • Passionate about guiding and mentoring middle school students during a formative stage of development
  • Patient, encouraging, and committed to fostering confidence, resilience, and a love of learning through sport
  • Prioritizes creating a supportive and inclusive team environment where all students feel valued
  • Dedicated to building and maintaining a positive team culture
  • Strong communicator who collaborates effectively with students, families, and colleagues
  • Committed to principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion. 
 

 Physical Requirements:

 
  • The ability to sit and stand uninterrupted for 30-minute periods of time.
  • The ability to regularly walk on and travel across variable surfaces (e.g. level flooring, stairs, turf, gravel, asphalt, etc.).
  • The ability to lead, supervise, and accompany students to all areas of the school campus (including all indoor and outdoor areas), including during day-to-day responsibilities and in case of emergency. 
  • The ability to consistently operate a computer. Proficient in the ability to quickly learn  Google tools and other school software. 
  • The ability to regularly stand, sit, crouch, and kneel down in order to support students. 
  • The ability to work outdoors, year-round, in variable weather conditions.
  • The ability to lift and hold 15 lbs overhead. 
  • The ability to occasionally transport (e.g., move or drag) 25 lbs. 
  • The ability to maintain focus and composure in an energetic and, at times, loud environment.
