Position Overview and Responsibilities:


This is an Assistant Bureau Chief position for the District 4 Administration.


 


In carrying out the duties of this position, the incumbent is expected at all times to be aware of and abide by the Department’s Standards of Conduct, as well as any and all departmental and/or work unit rules, directives, policies, procedures, and/or general orders applicable to performing the duties of this position. As supervisory, the incumbent is also expected to actively support and work toward fulfilling the Agency’s Affirmative Action objectives. Compliance with the processing requirements of Chapter 215.422, F.S. is mandatory. Persistent failure to comply with this section by any agency of the state shall constitute good cause for discharge of employees duly found responsible, or predominantly responsible, for failure to comply.


 


Spends majority of their time communicating with, motivating, training, and evaluating employees; and planning and directing employees’ work, and has the authority to hire, transfer, suspend, lay off, recall, promote, discharge, assign, reward, or discipline subordinate employees or effectively recommend such action. Assists the Bureau Chief in the overall management and administration of bureau operations, including the implementation and monitoring of policies, plans and programs related to administration, resource management, visitor services, protection and maintenance.  Provides daily consultation and recommendations to the Bureau Chief and to park managers in the areas of administration, personnel, education, training, interpretation, citizen support organization, volunteer recruitment and utilization, and donation solicitation.  In the absence of the Bureau Chief, handles routine as well as critical matters requiring attention.


 


Responsible for overall management of the bureau office involving administrative and personnel matters.  Monitors and directs the education and training program(s), citizen support and volunteer coordination.  Assists the Bureau Chief in identifying needs and monitoring progress of grants program, budget tracking and reconciliation to include internal performance compliance review and internal and external audit criticisms and responses.


 


Plans and directs all aspects of the construction and maintenance program for the bureau through consultations with the construction and maintenance staff together with park managers.  Coordinates planning, reviewing and implementation of such programs with other offices, bureaus, permitting organizations and the public sector as required.


 


Conduct on-site reviews of district parks to assess efficiency and effectiveness of operations as well as staff morale.  Reports result of reviews to the Bureau Chief, making recommendations for corrective action.


Plans and coordinates the district protection program to include conducting Park Safety Inspections and maintaining all established standards, including written policies and required safety equipment.  Assess general protection needs and coordinates efforts with local, regional and state organizations as needed.


Assists the Bureau Chief in the implementation, coordination and monitoring of all resource management programs relating to parks within the district or on a statewide basis.


 


Represents the Bureau and the Division at various meetings, seminars, workshops and conferences to obtain and furnish information.


 


Performs other related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications:


Valid Driver’s License


 


 


Position of Special Trust Requirement:


This position is designated as a Position of Special Trust in accordance with DEP Directive 422, Positions of Special Trust or Responsibility. Successful completion of background screening will be required for this position.


 


Pay:


$6,375.00 monthly/$76,500.00 annually
