Outreach Dental Assistant - Seasonal Position

Hiring Range = $15.50-16.80\hour

Please note that this position is a seasonal position that works during the traditional school year and has summers off. 

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt 

Outreach Dental Assistant General Description

The Outreach Dental Assistant will conduct and assist in all outreach activities in a timely fashion to ensure outreach dental services are performed. This position is also responsible for providing patient education regarding oral health.

Outreach Dental Assistant Essential Duties 

1. Perform duties associated with dental outreach services.


2. Assist with driving to outreach locations in company vehicle; with a willingness to drive during inclement weather, i.e. rain, snow, wind, etc. If the company vehicle is not available, may have to drive own vehicle to outreach locations; will get reimbursed for mileage.
   


3. Assist hygienist at facility, as needed;


4. Sterilize dental instruments and equipment for each patient;
   


5. Organize and lay out instruments for hygienists to use;


6. Hand instruments and other materials to hygienist during procedures;


7. Use suction and swabs to keep patients’ mouths clear and dry during procedures;


8. Chart according to protocol;


9. Perform other duties as assigned.

Outreach Dental Assistant Skills Required

1. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, patients, and the public.
   


2. Knowledge of HIPAA privacy rules and regulations. 


3. Ability to prioritize tasks to provide appropriate efficient and quality patient care.


4. Ability to anticipate and react calmly in emergency situations.


5. Willingness to educate patients and the community in oral healthcare and the role of the dental care team.


6. Effective and efficient time management.
   


7. Ability to work independently and use good judgement. 
   
   

Outreach Dental Assistant Education and Experience 

1. High School Diploma or GED;


2. Graduation from a Dental Assisting Program preferred but not required;


3. Previous experience as a dental assistant preferred but not required;


4. Must have and maintain CPR certification;


5. Social and cultural sensitivity appropriate to ethnically and economically diverse patient and employee-base.
