Are you a skilled and dedicated Inpatient Pediatric RN ready to make a meaningful impact in a rural hospital setting? Northern Navajo Medical Center (NNMC) in Shiprock, NM is seeking experienced Registered Nurses to join their Pediatric Inpatient Unit on a long-term travel contract. This is a unique opportunity to serve Native communities through the Indian Health Service (IHS) and deliver care where it’s needed most.  Located in Shiprock, NM, NNMC serves as the primary medical and administrative facility for the Shiprock Service Unit (SRSU)—the largest geographical service area within the Navajo Area IHS. The 60-bed facility provides comprehensive inpatient and outpatient services to a broad and diverse patient base across New Mexico, Arizona, and Utah. NNMC is certified as a Level IV Trauma Center and a Peds Ready hospital, ensuring it is fully equipped to deliver advanced emergency and inpatient pediatric care in a rural setting.  Learn more about NNMC

Your Role:
As a Pediatric Inpatient RN at NNMC, you’ll be responsible for delivering family-centered, compassionate care to pediatric patients with a variety of medical conditions. You’ll work in a fast-paced hospital setting, supporting children from infancy through adolescence.

  • Strong background in inpatient pediatrics, acute care, or med-surg 
  • Previous IHS or travel nursing experience is highly desirable 
  • Experience with pediatric clinical pathways and EMR documentation 
  • Compassionate, culturally sensitive, and patient-family focused 
  • Ability to remain calm in high-acuity and emergency situations

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Providing direct, age-appropriate care to pediatric inpatients 
  • Monitoring patient status, administering medications, and managing IVs 
  • Supporting family engagement and education throughout the hospital stay 
  • Collaborating with pediatricians, specialists, and allied health professionals 
  • Accurately documenting assessments, interventions, and progress in the EMR 
  • Assisting with emergency situations and supporting continuity of care 
  • Adhering to all hospital safety standards, protocols, and infection control policies

Prairie Band, LLC follows Title 22: Employment Code of the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation. This position is designated as a TIER 1 role. Preference will be given in accordance with Section 22-2-4(B). Requirements

 Requirements:

  • Minimum of 36 months nursing experience, with at least 2 years in inpatient pediatric care 
  • Graduate of a nationally accredited nursing program (ADN, BSN, or Diploma) 
  • Active, unrestricted RN license in any U.S. state or territory 
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) , Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification required 
  • Medical clearance with fitness-for-duty certificate (upon request) 
  • Valid state-issued driver’s license (if required for duties) 
  • Must be a U.S. citizen 
  • Must pass a federal background check
