Job Description - Radiological Control Engineering Manager


Location: Oak Ridge, TN
Job Title: Radiological Control Engineering Manager

What You'll Do


  • Maintains expertise in personal protective equipment, assessment techniques and engineered solutions to mitigate the hazards from radiation sources and/or radioactive materials

  • Provides daily support to Operations line management and project personnel through radiation hazard analysis and technical review of operations and projects, to include participation on facility Operational Safety Boards (OSB)

  • Provides technical support to monitoring activities conducted by Field Operations and Environmental Compliance

  • Conducts, or provides experts to participate in accident/incident investigations, critiques, and root cause evaluations.

  • Monitors exposure trends, dose rates, and contamination levels and provides feedback to management on status of the program through specific process reviews and evaluations.

  • Provides assistance in emergency conditions.

  • Conducts design reviews of new facilities and equipment or modifications to facilities and equipment to ensure radiation exposures are reduced to levels as low as reasonably achievable. Optimization analysis may be included as necessary.

  • Prepares characterization survey plans and hazard assessments to assist in the proper disposition of facilities and equipment using nationally recognized criteria and tools (e.g., MARSSIM, RESRAD, etc.).

  • In addition to the duties and responsibilities listed above of the Manager, Radiological Engineering, a Senior Manager will be required to:

  • Independently develop and execute plans and programs to reduce personnel exposure, reduce personnel contamination events, and improve radiological performance for all organizations on site.

  • Plan and execute the budget for all of the Radiological Control organization.

  • Represent the Radiological Control organization during site wide and governmental meetings.

  • Identify and execute corrective actions for departmental level issues.

Minimum Job Requirements


  • Bachelor's degree: Minimum 7 years of relevant experience. 

  • In addition, the applicant must meet the requirements of DOE O 426.2A (i.e., Baccalaureate in engineering or related scientific major and 4 years nuclear experience; or a DOE O 426.2A alternative). 

Preferred Job Requirements


  • Bachelor's degree in Health Physics, Engineering or a closely related field

  • Minimum 4 years of supervisor experience.

If a range of Career Levels is posted, i.e., Senior Associate to Senior Specialist, internal applicants already in one of the Career Levels would come across at their current Career Level. Internal applicants currently in a lower level Career Level would move to the lowest posted Career Level.

 

Requires a Q clearance; however all qualified candidates will be considered regardless of their current clearance status. The ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy Q clearance is required.

 


This position may require entry into the Material Access Areas (MAA) and participation in the Human Reliability Program (10 C.F.R. Part 712), which requires successful competition of a DOE counterintelligence evaluation and may include a counterintelligence-scope polygraph examination.

 


This position may be categorized as a “designated position” identified by 10 C.F.R. Part 709, requiring successful completion of a DOE counterintelligence evaluation that may include a counterintelligence-scope polygraph examination.
