Curriculum Content Specialist

DOOR International is a global Christian non-profit who wants to see Jesus transform every Deaf person and community through a relationship with Him. To that end, our mission is to grow and equip Deaf leaders worldwide in evangelism, discipleship, sign language Bible translation, and scripture engagement. We are seeking passionate and experienced Curriculum Content Specialists to support our CEDAR Institute. 

Responsibilities

The Curriculum Content Specialist is a contract-based Subject Matter Expert (SME) who contributes specialized expertise to support course development, instruction, and mentoring within the CEDAR program. SMEs may contribute in one or more areas, including consulting, Bible translation, linguistics, sign language Bible translation, and other related disciplines relevant to consultant training.

The SME will develop, review curriculum content for  high-quality courses and learning resources that prepare Deaf and hearing consultants-in-training for effective service in multilingual, multicultural Bible translation settings. The SME will ensure that course content is accurate, relevant, and aligned with CEDAR’s training goals, while also reflecting culturally responsive, relational, and Deaf-centered practices.

Depending on program needs and SME qualifications, the role may also include mentoring, instructional facilitation (teaching), and internal evaluation. Through this work, the SME contributes to the preparation of future consultants who can effectively support and collaborate with translation teams in sign language Bible translation efforts worldwide.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree or advanced education in Biblical Studies, Theology, Linguistics, Translation Studies, or relevant field required.  


• At least 3-5 years of relevant experience in the field of the SME’s expertise.


• Experience contributing to curriculum or training for Deaf learners or in cross-cultural environments preferred.

• Excellent sign language proficiency (e.g., near-native or native fluency in American Sign Language or another signed language) and strong written communication skills in English.


• Comfortable navigating multilingual, cross-cultural, and Deaf-centered environments.


• High emotional intelligence and maturity, with the ability to build trust, mentor others, and communicate effectively across cultures.


• Mature conflict resolution skills: able to navigate interpersonal tension, support team growth, and model humility in high-stakes settings.


• Strong time management and organizational skills.


• Ability to work independently while maintaining alignment with team goals.


• Demonstrates spiritual maturity, a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, and dedication to a Christian body of believers.


• Alignment with DOOR International’s Statement of Faith is required.

This contractual work is temporary, and may be extended/renewed depending on the business needs of the organization.
