Job Description - RN - Correctional Medicine




Adelphi is seeking compassionate and skilled Registered Nurses to provide essential correctional healthcare services in Whatcom County, Washington State.The ideal candidates will have experience in acute care, triage, and chronic disease management—preferably in a correctional or public health setting—and a strong commitment to delivering patient-centered care.

Requirements



• Graduate of an accredited nursing program with an Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)



• Current, active RN license in the State of Washington



• Current CPR/BLS certification (AHA-approved)



• Minimum of 1–2 years of clinical nursing experience (correctional or public health nursing preferred)



• Familiarity with NCCHC standards preferred



• Strong clinical assessment, organizational, and communication skills



• Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team



• Must pass a comprehensive background check and drug screening







Responsibilities



• Deliver direct patient care, including assessments, treatments, and medication administration



• Conduct intake screenings and health assessments upon booking



• Triage and respond to urgent and emergent medical needs



• Monitor and manage chronic care patients according to established protocols



• Maintain accurate, timely documentation in electronic health records (EHR)



• Support infection control measures, detoxification monitoring, and suicide prevention protocols



• Collaborate effectively with nursing staff, medical providers, mental health professionals, and custody personnel



• Ensure compliance with internal policies, NCCHC standards, and applicable regulatory requirements



• Participate in training, staff meetings, and continuing education as required



• Promote a safe, secure, and professional healthcare environment within the correctional setting
