Job Description - Seasonal Career Readiness Assistant Facilitator

Job Purpose

The Career Readiness Assistant Facilitator will act in a leadership and facilitator role, helping to guide and mentor the high school students who are enrolled in the MAGNET Manufacturing Career Academy and earning an entry level manufacturing certification. Career Readiness Facilitators and the Career Readiness Assistant Facilitator will provide job readiness training for students to leave the program professionally fit to successfully transition into their post-secondary career. The person in this role will be a positive near-peer role model for the high school students, demonstrating excellent work ethic, professionalism, and a positive attitude while completing assigned tasks, facilitating professional development content, and supporting the Career Readiness Facilitators and MAGNET educators. The person in this role acts as a mentor for the high school-aged participants, coaching them in completing their tasks, giving guidance and advice, and facilitating career readiness content. The MAGNET Manufacturing Career Academy offered by Youth Opportunities Unlimited is part of our Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) where high school students will learn career readiness skills, manufacturing, mechanics, machining, welding, fabrication, and assembly in an interactive and engaging educational setting.

Essential Functions

  • Facilitate career readiness content for high school students.
  • Support the day-to-day operations of the MAGNET Manufacturing Summer Career Academy.
  • Supervise MAGNET participants during manufacturing presentations and accompany participants during manufacturing site tours.
  • Provide administrative support for MAGNET and Career Readiness Facilitators along with tracking attendance of participants, coordinating with the job coach, etc. 
  • Aid in the creation of job readiness training curriculum and educational materials for SYEP participants.
  • Provide feedback to MAGNET participants to help them improve their professionalism, public speaking, and presentation skills.
  • Serve as a mentor and coach to MAGNET participants.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Education

  • A Bachelor’s Degree or working on completing a Bachelor's Degree in Education, Business, Social Work, Manufacturing, Mechanics, STEM, Engineering, or another relevant field at an accredited college.

Requirements

  • Must be able to accommodate a flexible work schedule, including evenings and weekend shifts. 
  • Must have experience in customer service.
  • Must have valid transportation to/from Y.O.U. offices, partner organizations, and other community-based locations to meet with staff and participants. 
  • Must pass a background BCI/FBI check as a condition of employment.

  • Strong coordination and organizational skills. 
  • Ability to work independently and as part of team. Would be beneficial to have experience as a mentor, coach or in a leadership role. 
  • Possess a positive and solution-oriented attitude.

Work Environment

  • This position is based in a multiple classroom type setting at the MAGNET facility and will require regular travel to the community partner location. The work pace for this position is sometimes fast paced where work is required for up to 3 hours at a time. Moderate supervision from managers with intermittent prompts is expected, especially on manufacturer work sites. Social interaction with clients and team members is required frequently. The majority of work is done in a controlled environment. The environment in which the job is performed outside a normal classroom space may include exposure to extreme temperature, noise, heights, or other hazards. All remains the same for any additional requirements for training.
