Seasonal Restoration Technicians

Job Description - Seasonal Restoration Technicians

People Architects is proud to partner with Cleveland Museum of Natural History in recruiting for Seasonal Restoration Technicians to support hands-on ecological restoration and biodiversity management work across marsh and swamp forest habitats.  We’re offering 3-month and 6-month opportunities to fit your availability.

This is not a desk job. This is boots-on-the-ground stewardship- leading crews, restoring native ecosystems, and doing meaningful work that shows up on the land itself. This is for someone who doesn’t mind getting dirty, moving through rough terrain, and doing hands-on work that quietly but meaningfully restores ecosystems.   Position Duration: This is a seasonal position with the 3 month postion running from May 11th through August 13th.  The 6 month opportunity will run from May 11th through November 12th.

About the role:

The Natural Areas division is dedicated to identifying and protecting the best remaining examples of native habitats that existed in the Lake Erie and Upper Ohio River drainage prior to settlement. As a Restoration Technician, you’ll be part of a practical, science-informed approach to stewardship and biodiversity management.

This is field-based work. It’s physical. It’s real. And it directly supports the long-term health of Northeast Ohio’s natural landscapes.

Responsibilities

  • Implement land management and invasive species control techniques using appropriate tools and equipment

  • Operate and maintain hand and power tools for invasive plant management

  • Assist with monitoring, mapping, and data entry related to invasive plant populations and treatment areas

  • Analyze GPS and aerial drone mapping data and contribute to GIS maps that help prioritize restoration efforts

  • Assist with plant identification using taxonomic field guides

  • Identify, collect, and distribute seeds and cuttings to support marsh habitat restoration

  • Support additional field and restoration tasks as needed

Qualifications (required and preferred)

  • High school diploma or GED

  • At least 6 months of related field or outdoor work experience

  • Valid driver’s license

  • Bachelor’s degree (or current undergraduate study) in Biology, Botany, Restoration Ecology, or a related field (preferred)

Working Conditions

This role is outdoors- fully and honestly. You’ll work in all weather conditions and may encounter biting or stinging insects, poisonous or prickly plants, and physically demanding terrain. Sites may be semi-remote with limited access to indoor facilities.

  • Walk for extended periods

  • Navigate uneven or challenging terrain

  • Perform strenuous, labor-intensive fieldwork

  • Lift up to 50 lbs, with or without reasonable accommodation
